Express split doubleheader, early record now at 1-2
TILLSONBURG - It was a long day for the Exeter Fap.$I but a laidy
successful one as they split a double header with the host Red Sox in Great
Lakes Senior Baseball League action.
After dropping their season opener last Tuesday, a 5-0 shutout to visit-
ing Listowel, the Exp ossapalq ged a 9-4 win in the second game on Sun-
day in Tillsonburg. The hgpiwon the first game 3-2.
In their first win of theemeon, Exeter jumped into a very quiek 5-0 lead
Exeter Minor Baseball Association president Brad Gregus,
left ; presented Joe Fulop an appreciation award for his 30
years of dedication to local baseball. Fulop was presented
with the award at a ceremony which was part of the EMBA
Opening Day on Sunday.
Exeter handles Lucan
EXETER - The host Juniors got a
little revenge Wednesday night as
they downed Lucan 14-4 in West-
ern Junior Baseball League action.
Earlier this year in a slugfest, it
was Lucan winning 14-13.
Breaking a 2-2 tie in the early in-
nings of Wednesday's contest, Ja-
son Heywood punched a single to
right field to break the tie and that
was followed by a Shawn McFalls
single.
A well executued hit-and-run
plus a passed ball resulted in Hey-
wood making it 4-2.
Rob McQueen was the lone
bright spot for Luc in as he clubbed
a two -run homer and also added
another rbi hit.
Goderich 17. Ludlum 9
Thursday, Lucan held a 6-2 lead
in the third inning but Goderich
came to life and erupted for five
runs in the third and seven moreiu
the fifth.
Steve Nixon had a big night at
theplatefor Lucan as he went 3 -
for -4 including a pair of rbi's. Chris
Smith and brother Scott both
crushed home runs in a losing
cause.
On Sunday, Lucan got some re-
venge on Goderich and won in a
game which saw eight home runs
including a grand slam by Scott
Smith. Todd Papple and Dwayne
Erb hit roundtrippers for Goderich.

The rally continued when Gregus scored on a Rick Boon base hit fol-
lowed by a Scou Russell single.
Tillsonburg came back and made it 5-3 in their half of the second on two
walks, a pair of hits and a couple of Express errors. But in the fifth, Exeter
again had a big rally plating four more runs.
Scot Russell started things going with a double followed by base hits off
the bats of Kerry Hedden and Martin and then Glover doubled followed by
Dickeys single.
Boon went 4-fer 5 a Ike plate *Alluding a double while Scot Russell
added three hits.
Scot Davidson started on the hill for the winners but gave way to Boon
after three strong innings. The Exeter pitchers gave up eight hits.
Tillsonburg 3. Exeter Z
Although the Express scored in the first inning, the offense sputtered
the rest of the way and they lost the fust game of the double header.
Gregus walked and eventually scored on Hedden's single. The only other
run the visitors got came in the seventh and final frame when Boon dou-
bled with one out, scored on Hedden's second rbi base hit of the game.
Tillsonburg got two runs in the third and another in the fourth. Brent
O'Brien started for Exeter and Merner came on in relief.
