THAMES ROAD - The regular
church service was held on Sunday
morning with Rev. Jim Allsop in
charge.
The responsive reading was read
from the green service book Psalm
66. The choir sang "His Name is
Wonderful" accompanied by the or-
ganist Erin Kraftcheck.
The children's hymn "Come Chil-
dren Join to Sing" was sung and
Rev. Allsop told the children's sto-
ry. The Scripture Readings were
read from 1 Peter 3:13-22, and Gos-
pel of John 14:1-22. Rev. Allsop's
sermon was entitled "Searching for
God".
Upcoming events
On May 30 Communion Service
will be held at both churches.
On June 2 at 8 p.m. at Elimvillc
church will be Vacation Bible
School teacher's training.
The Steering Committee for the
Future of our Rural Churches has
organized a joint church service to
be held at Thames Road United
Church on June 6 at 11 a.m. which
is Conference Sunday.
June 20 in Elimville Sunday
School Anniversary and June 27 is
Thames Road Sunday School Anni-
versary.

VARNA - Dorothy Ostrom's
topic was on the United Church's
Massey Centre in Toronto which
has been helping pregnant young
women and single mothers since
1901.
Mary Ostrom gave the Scripture
reading, hymn "Mothers of Salem"
sung, Mary read a Mother's Day
prayer and Helen Taylor gave a
reading on "Mother's Day of Glo-
ry"
President Joyce Dowson report-
ed on the Spring Event in Brussels
and Margaret McClymont read
several thank you notes. Margaret
Hayter reported on the successful
dessert euchre and the financial as-
sistance the ladies are providing
for the manse renovations.
On May 27 the Huron County
Historical is meeting in Varna
Church. A petition is being circu-
lated opposing casino gambling in
Ontario. Items of good used cloth-
ing (dishes, bedding, etc.) may be
left in the Church Basement after
May 27 and will be packed early
in June. On Sunday June 6, the
U.C.W. will be responsible for the
church service and will portray
stories of women of the Bible.
A few very interesting articles
that had belonged to member's,
grandmothers were shown, among
them a cup from London Fair in
1902.
The June U.C.W. meeting will
be held on June 10 instead of June
3.

On Sunday afternoon a Teen Ap-
preciation and Awards Meeting
was held for the teen volunteers
for the Clinton Public Hospital.
Heather Laurie and Heather Beier-
ling received their caps for over 50
hours: of volunteer work at the hos-
pital. Kim Taylor and Erin Keys

their cap.
Many people from Varna area
enjoyed the Music Through the
Years put on by the Preszcator Step
Dancers and the Carry on Cloggers
held at the Blyth Theatre on Sun-
day with two shows. One at 4 p.m.
and the other at 7:30 p.m. Many
from Varna and Area took part in
this show, both young and old.
Blaine Stephenson was the master
of ceremonies.
Anyone not playing baseball for
Stanley Township this year and has
a ball shirt from last year, is asked
to please return it to Joan .McAsh
as soon as possible. The Pee Wee
girls ball equipment is missing. If
anyone has any tntormation about
