Building of propossd
plaza could begin in tail
GRAND BEND - After four
years of blueprints and meetings, a
proposed plaza in Grand Bend is
growing closer to the start of
ground breaking.
Monday night at Grand Bend
council, Andy Spriet, representing
Doug Jennison and Oakwood Plaza,
said once.approved, work could be-
gininthefall.
• "Are you in the position to firm
up a date on this?, questioned coun-
cillor Phil Maguire.
The original idea of the plaza first
came to council back in 1989 when
Bob Sharen was the reeve.
"They (council then) said it was
exceptable but it needed tome fine
tuning," said Grand Bend Adminis-
trator Paul Turnbull.
A couple of issues in which
Spriet was working on were the
garbage container area and the pos-
sibility of another lane on Oak St.
The plaza will be on the corner of
Oak and Ontario.
"I can see the congestion and the
possibility of a blind spot," said
councillor Bill Uniac of the traffic
problem on the corner.
Maguire asked Spriet if there was
a site plan agreement in place but
apparently there is -not because
there are several properties joined
together.
The plaza is scheduled to be btiilt'
in two phases with the first one
8,000 square feet and the second,
5,400.
"It might be one year, two, or five
years," said Spriet of when the sec-
ond phase would be built.

Skateboard
park for
Exeter?
320111TER,-• .CouneilloR.Ben
Hoogenboom at Monday eve-
ning's council meeting said
he liked the Village of Hen-
sall's plans for a skateboard
park. Hoogenboom said it
sounded like a good idea that
Exeter could possibly copy to
find a solution for problems
with skateboarders in town.
Hoogenboom asked if the
recreation board might be in-
terested in finding a good lo-
cation in town for a facility
similar to Hensall's proposal.
Past problems with skate-
boarders and the damage they
have caused to public proper-
ty led council to pass a bylaw
prohibiting skateboarding on
certain streets of town.
