Lions have Market Square Pa* plans
LUCAN - Members of village
council gave their blessing last
Tuesday night to a proposal from
the Lucan Lions to improve the
Market Square park.
Lions Jim Young and Pat Ryan
presented a plan to council pro-
duced by students of the Fanshawe
College landscaping course.
First of all, the present pavillion
located near the Scout Hall will be
moved to the south side of the
property. Playground equipment
will be placed on either side of the
relocated pavillion with facilities
for nursery school and other small-
er youngsters to the east side and
for older boys and girls to the west-
erly side.
The present ball diamond will be
moved farther east from its present
location at the northwest comer of
the park.
Jini Young said by moving the
ball diampond, that corner will be
opened up and allow for a main en-
trance incorporated with the old vil-
lage bell and historic plaques.
Young said the new entrance will
make it easier for senior citizens to
come across the comer from their
residence. ' Pathways of chips an
dust will be installed in varil.

Pat Ryan added, "Whi -are
moving the ball diamond we want
it to remain as a recreational ball
facility for smaller kids."
On the subject of trees, Ryan said
the committee has already made ar-
rangements to plant larger trees like
silver maples and blue spruce as
high as 23 feet and Young added
that the park would be properly
drained.
Plans call for placing a new ce-
ment pad where the present pavil-
lion is for one-way basketball.
The Lions alread have $26,000
earmarked for this project and
Ryan said as much volunteer labour
as possible would be used.
In supporting the proposal, coun-
cillor Bryan Smith said, "We can't
complain when somebody wants to
improve our parks" and reeve Tom
McLaughlin added, "We certainly
appreciate your efforts in providing
