TAKE MOM SHOPPING AT.. 1993 Volunteer Get l'ogether in Ilderton ILDERTON - In celebrating the National Volunteer Week, the VON HOMME Program (Helping Others Maintain Middlesex Elders) Eastern Region, held the 1993 Volunteer Get Together on April 19, at the Curling Club in Ilderton. Volunteers had a day of fun and good fellowship. They also enjoyed poems by Dorothy Dobbie, the guest speaker. Volunteers are the key ingredient of the VON HOMME Program in pro- viding Community Support Services to seniors in London, West Nissouri and Biddulph Townships and the Village of Lucan. Volunteers support the Volunteers are the key ingredient program in delivering meals and driving seniors to medical appointments, shopping and social events. A volunteer's friendly visit or a personal phone call is important in maintaining seniors to stay in their own homes. Volunteers also help in providing other services including Foot Care Clin- ic, Lunch Out Program, Emergency Information Vial, office work and committee. work. In the 1992.93 fiscal year, 73 volunteers provided various services for 247 seniors in the Eastern Region. Volunteers contributed 1660 hours in service provision, such as delivering 1703 meals, giving 352 rides, 252 foot care sessions and sending out 239 vials etc. Volunteers are really the backbone of the VON HOMME Program. Their strong commiunent, sup- port and care truly make a difference to the life of the seniors and their communities.
