MITCHELL - Facing elimina-
uun, the Lucan Irish squeaked out a
6-5 win Sunday afternoon, forcing
a fifth game of the Oatario Hockey
Association Junior'Development
League west division finals.
The Mitchell Hawks take a com-
manding threes -game -to -one lead
into tonight's game in Lucan which
is an 8:15 p.m. start.
Sunday in Mitchell, the Irish
played their best period of the best -
of -seven series, as they took a 5-2
fust period lead before the Hawks
could close the gap to 5-4 at the
end of 40 minutes.
Mitchell scored on their first two
shots of the game as both Kory
Dietz and Mark Ulch beat Eoin
McInerney but the Irish quickly
turned things around on goals by
Steve Moore, Jason Reidhead and
Brian Schuyler. The visitors got
two more by the end of the opening
frame as Paul O'Shea and Greg De-
Prest connected.
"We were down 2-0, we had no
choice," said Lucan coach Ken
Needham of the turnaround.
Lucan scored three powerplay
goals and Needham said his team
finally showed some emotion.
"I thought it would just take a
win to get us going. We'll take it a
period at a time," said Needham of
Lucan's attempt to now win four
straight games.
Hawks' starting goalie Jason Cas-
sidy was replaced with Dennis
Scherbarth after O'Shea's goal and
it seemed to spark the hosts in the
second as Craig Quipp and Dan
Boyd scored in the second to make
OMHA playoffs
HcnsaII Mustangs ousted in finals
LUCAN - Despite the outstand-
ing efforts of goalie Dave Stephens
and centre Chris Gardner, the Hen-
sall Mutimgs failed to teat Ennis
more Saturday night in the Ontario
Minor hockey Association Juve-
nile 'B' finals.
The controversial series, which
was chopped down from a best -of -
seven to a best -of -three, saw Ennis -
more win 4-2. A couple of weeks
ago they won back-to-back games
in Eanismore in .a .pair of games
which saw several Mustangs in-
.Nm -
It was the OMHA who halted'the
series as Hensall, and other teams
had complained about the rough
play by Ennismore.
Chris Gardner had a pairof goals
for the Mustangs and Stephens
made several key saves to keop, tiss
game close.
Friday's scoring opened std to
Rob Hoffman did a lot of wick in
front of the Ennixmore net, got a
shot away and then Gardner carne
in to pick up the rebound.
That got the large Hensel' crowd
excited and the Mustangs made
they had something :to Cheer
*bout all through the game as either
item could have won this close
cwt.
With 6:40 left in the first period,
Ennismore's Troy Crowder tied it
up with a wraparound and then Don
Young scored twice to give Ennis -
more a 3-1 lead.
Young was the recipient of the
fust penalty, just 16 seconds into
the game when he got an elbow up
high into a Mustang player.
Mustangs' defensemen Jeremy
Brock dished out a big hit which
sparked Hensall's Gardner to go
and get his second of the game.
The only goal of the third period
was a lucky one as Crowder, head-
ing to the bench while killing a
penalty, cleared the puck towards
Stephens from the blueline and it
managed to go in to make it 4-2.
Stephens was replaced immedi-
ately by Jason Clarke who did not
allow a goal but did get agitated
near the end of the game and was
given a roughing penalty and eject-
ed so Stephens went back in.
Hensall was physical as Mau
Gardner was given a four minute
cross-checking penalty as he con-
tinued to lay the lumber into the
back of a ; downed Ennismore
player.
After the game, when Hensel) re-
ceived their finalist trophy and En-
nismore the championship trophy,
the latter stayed on the ice and
taunted the Hensel) fans.
The Ennismore coach and players
An En.*nww player found himself in the middle of several Hensall Mustangs right after a gathered around the OMHA repre-
faceoff duri riday's OMHA Juvenile 'B' championship series game played in Lucan. sentatives and seemed very angry

OMHA rep had to point to the En-
nismore coach to setoff the ice.
Lucan peewees
denied second
straight title
FRANKFORD - A third period
goal by the hosts meant the end of
the hockey season for the Lucan
peewees on Saturday as they
dropped a close 3-2 decision to
Frankford.
It was the second straight year
that Lucan had made it to the 'DD'
championships as they bought
bane the title from Deseru o a
year ago.
Saturday in Frankford, Scott
Thompson teamed with Ryan Car-
roll and Matt Porter for the first
Lucan goal and then Ryan Thomas
connected from Chad Morrison.
Both of the visitors goals came in
the first period.
But Frankford had two goals of
their own in the fust period as Ken
Chegher and Scou Lackwood con-
nected and then in the third, it was
Lackwood giving Frankford the
win with his second of the game.

Although Friday afternoon's
game was tied 1-1 after the first pe-
riod, the visiting Hawks exploded
for four second period goals to
jump ahead 5-1.
"All of a sudden it's like a switch,
they're not there," said Needham af-
ter the third straight loss to Mitch-
ell.
Steve Snider scored the lone Irish
goal in this game while the Hawks
received a well balanced scoring at-
tack as Rob Jarmuth, Craig Eidt,
Josh Lambourn, Kory Dietz, Ulch,
Erik Haefling and Quipp connect-
ed.
"Yat have to give them credit,
they want it bad," said Needham of
how the Hawks are playing.
In the -fust period, Lucan defense -
man Ed VanKcrkoerle broke up a
two -on -one by throwing his stick
which resulted in Dietz being
awarded a penalty shot.
The speedy Mitchell leftwinger
went in on Brent Lewis and shot
right into the goalies' pads.
"I don't think you can blame the
goaltending at all. It's been our
brightest point."
Lucan tried to use some of that
Irish luck on Friday as captain
Andy Ross who has a separated
shoulder, dressed and sat on the
bench in an attempt to motivate the
team.
"He never saw the ice, he can't
play," said Needham.
There were also several former
Irish players at the game including
goalie Bob Szabo but their pres-
ence didn't help.

The sputtering Irish offense could
not click into gear in Lucan
Wednesday night and the only Lu -
can goal came in the first period
when Jason Wilson spun around in
the slot and after he shot, Jim Stan-
ton got on the loose puck.
Scoring for Mitchell were Quipp
and Jarmuth both with a pair.
