REMEMBER "MONSOIR" MONDOU
I liked the skills games at the ALL-STAR game and the NHL
Oldtimer's All-Star game versus the Montreal Canadian Oldtimer.
was really great. PIERRE MONDOU the former Montreal wingc
looked like he could still fly out there. It reminds me of the tin
when 1 was coaching the 'BRUINS, and YVAN COURNOYER
the Montreal Canadian ROADRUNNER was killing us with his
speed, in the STANLEY CUP FINALS. But then Yvan got hurt in
a game, so my speech before the next game was "We got'em now!
No more speedballs out there and they are slowed down." Then the
Canadians brought up some guy we'd never heard of named
PIERRE MONDOU. So the game starts and SCOTTY BOW-
MAN puts out MONDOU and he's twice as fast as COURNOYER.
The players look back at me and WAYNE CASHMAN says
"WELLDON, so much for them having no SPEEDBALLS!"
"The end of MONDOU'S career was sad/ I remember the inci-
dent like it was yesterday. Pieere had gotten a semi -breakaway in
MONTREAL against HARTFORD
and he outakated everybody and put it
up in the top comer. The defenseman
who was chasing him reached around
with his stick after the goal and flicked
hien in the eyc. He never really ever
played again like the old Pierre and had
to retire. Incidently, the HARTFORD
defenseman who ended Pierre's career
was ULF SAMUELSON. '

SIX NATIONS - The Exeter Legion peewees bid to
make it to the OMHA 'CC" finals was halted Friday
night as they were beaterf 4-1 in Gane Four of the se-
ries.
"We're happy we went that far but every game was
harder to lose," said Exeter coach Dave Partridge.
After dropping the first two games, the peewees
came back and won 3-2 on Friday but the tough Six
Nations team will advance to play either Durham or
Nobleton.
Exeter's only goal on Friday came from captain
Dave Farquhar who was set up by BtParsons and
Tyler Bourne.
"We were just flat. We couldn't get any momentum,"
added Partridge.
Exeter are still in the Shamrock League playoffs and
will be in the final on Saturday in Lucan at 12:30 p.m.
.Exeter 3, Six Nations 2
Facing elimination, Exeter trailed 2-0 at the end of
the first period but came back and forced another game
back in Six Nations.
Wednesday night at the South Huron Recreation
Centre, Jason Henhawk let go with a long shot to beat
Legion goalie Joey Bierling and then it was Henhawk
All-star game in Lambeth
again with 1:37 left in the opening frame to make it 2-
0.
The score could have been higher fbr the visitors if
not for the individual efforts of several players such its
defenseman Laurence Cole who stripped Six Nations'
David Hill who would have gone in on a breakaway.
Playing four skaters aside in the second period, Exet-
er's Geoff Maver scored 31 seconds into the period af-
ter Mark Bell lugged the puck into the Six Nations
end.
Farquhar was hauled down from behind which set
up a penalty shot but he stuffed it right into Andrev.
Vanevery's pads.
Exeter also had a chance to tie it when Six Nations
took back-to-back penalties but the score was not
deadlocked until Jeff MacLean connected on a play
that started from behidn the Six Nations net.
Late in the third, Exeter's Geoff Maver bumped and
banged Cecil Hill in the corner and from that point on
the game's tempo seemed to turn in favour of the hosts.
Six Nations pressure in the third but Bierling made
two huge point blank saves and right after the second,
Dave Marshall went down to score what proved to be
the winner with 4:05 remaining.
