Hensall Figure Skating Club

HENSALL --The Hensall Figure
Skating Club and its members en-
tertained family and friends on
March 7 with a Disney Afternoon
on Ice.
Beauty and the Beast and the
song "Be Our Guest, Winnie the
Pooh and the Song "The Wonder-
ful Thing About Tiggers", Peter
Pan and the song "You Can Fly,
Y u Can Fly", Mary Poppins and
tlt,r song "A Spoonful of Sugarf',
Little Mermaid and the song "Un-
der the Sea" were just a few of the
characters the club portrayed
through costumes and skating.
In between the group skating
were solo performances by Lindsay
Knight, Kimberly Richmond, Kar-
rie Consist, Jennifer Cronin, Dana
Cooper and Leann Consist.

meeting of :the U.CAW. was .held
on Monday eveningn with 27 la-
dies present. .Sharon Passmore
welcomed everyone and gave the
theme "Lent" and -also the Call to
Worship on Lent. The ladies sang
"We Come to Praise Our Maker".
'Dorothy Duncan read the scrip-
ture Luke 9: 51-62.
Margaret McCarter gave the
Meditation on Steadfast. Anne
Bray offered prayer. Brianne Web-
ber did a baton twirling which was
well done and much enjoyed.
Anne Bray presented Webber with
a gift. Margaret and Anne received
the offering with a prayer by Dun-
can.
Sharon Passmore called Barb
Ballantyne foward to show how to
"podge', which was quite interest-
ing.
A draw was made and Patti
Webber was the lucky v inner.
Dorothy Duncan presented Bal-
lanyne with a gift.
The women sang "When I Sur-
vey the Wondrous Cross", and
Passmore closed the first part of
the meeting with prayer.
Judith Parker, the president,
opened the business part of the
meeting with a poem "A Christian
Is". Roll call was answered with
"Name Your Favourite Book or
Magazine and Name the Author of
the Book.
The UCW has received an invi-
tation from Kirkton to join with
them for their meeting April 14 at
8 p.m .and also an evening of mu-
sic at Woodham United Church on
Sunday March 28 at 8 p.m.
The Zion UCW are sponsoring a
Ladies Break Away on Saturday
April 3 from 10 to 4 at Kirkton
Woodham Community Centre.
"Faith of our Fathers' was sung
and Judith closed the meeting with
a quilt Liturgy and Benediction. A
delicious lunch was partaken of
with Group C in charge.
Church service
Rev. Jim Allsop was in charge of
the morning church service on Sun-
day morning with a very small at-
tendance. Psalm :121. was read re-
sponsively. Ray Caan clerk of
session called Robert Bray forward
and Rev. Allsop inducted Robert.
Karen Etherington, Derek and Ro-
byn looked after the Lenten Triad.
The choir sang "Take my Hand
Precious Lord" accompanied by the
organist Erin Kraftcheck.
The congregation sang the chil-
drens hymn "Jesus Loves Mc" and
Rev. Jim told the children's story
"God Loves all the World". The
Scripture reading was read from
Genesis 12: 1-14, Romans 4: 1-5,
13-17, John 3: 1-17. The title of
Rev. Allsop's sermon was "For
God so Loved the World". Murray
and Beatrice Dawson, and Judith
Parker and family hosted the coffee
hour after church.
On Wednesday March 10 at 9:30
a.m. Philippians Bible Study at the
Manse. Bring your own bible. All
are welcome.
The Board of Management will
be calling on all people of the con-
gregation in the next two weeks.
They will be bringing a letter with
them.

, Several ladies attended the World
Day of Prayer at Exeter United
Church on Friday.
There were 22 who attended the
Mens Breakfast on Saturday mom-
ing. Norman Holbrook, an agricul-
tural missionary in Nepal for ten
years, was the speaker. \\
Winners of poker rally
EXETER - Pineridge Snowmo-
bile Cluh had a successful Poker
Rally held east of No. 4 highway
on Sunday, February 28. There
were 52 winners.
The top 10 winners were Wade
Bickel], Floyd Harper, Mike Hal-
lam, :bob Ward, Dale Pa►ssmdre,
Dave Passmore, Brian Dow, Jim
Cooper, Eric Devlaeminck and
Tom Laing. Participants came from
Petrolia, Kitchener, Goderich, Sea -
forth, Lucan, Ailsa Craig, St. Mar-
ys, Mitchell, Zurich, Exeter and
Hensall.

ZURICH - A Monte Carlo night
and elimination draw will be held
April 16 by the Zurich Recreation
Board. The fundraiser, to be held at
the Community Centre at 8 p.m.,
will help with arena improvements.
Tickets are $15.
Lions
The Lions Club annual farmer
friend night will be held on March
15, at the Dominion Tavern with a
dinner for club members and guests
beginning at 7 p.m.

World day of prayer scrivces
were held on March 5 at Zurich
United Church. Guest speaker was
Gani Lazard, the new minister. His
wife Cynthia sang a solo.
Kub Kars
On March 6, the Zurich Cubs
were in Grand Bend, taking part in
a Kub Kar Rally. Jordon Jeffrey
and Craig Sloat were in the finals
with their home-made'wooden cars.
In the fathers' division Martin Ge-
linas took first place for his model
car. There were more than 200 par-
ticipants at the rally.
Women of the Lutheran Church.
held their annual workathon and
quilting bee on March 9 which in-
cluded a pot -luck supper.
Dining for Seniors
Tumout was large at the Senior
Diner's pork dinner held at the
Community Centre on March 3.
Tammy Antaya welcomed diners
and reminded them of an upcorning
bus trip to Ice Capades on March
13.
The 50/50 draw was won by Ger-
tie Fleischauer who read a poem.
Six tables of progressive euchre
were played with Earl Deichert
winning high hand; Harvey Hoh-
ner, low and lone hands to Annie
Finkbeiner.
Women's Institute
A pot luck meal was part of the
Zurich Women's Institute quilting
day on March 1. Some quilts will
be sold, while others will be donat-
ed to the Children's hospital. Dur-
ing the business meeting, Mildred
Klopp and Kay Hay were appoint-
ed auditors for the year ending in
April. '
Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Blue -
Water Rest Home enjoyed music
and lunch at the March 2 meeting.
George Mathonia played the accor-
dian and organ while his wife Ma-
ria sang. The meeting began with a
prayer led by president Mary -Ellen
Gingerich before announcements of
an August draw for a quilt made in
early February. The draw will take
place at the Bean Festival this sum-
mer. The other quilt made will be
sold at a silent auction. Three new
residents were welcomed to the
Home and the date for the annual
Mothers Day tea and bazaar was
set for May 8, 2-3:30 p.m. Craft ta-
bles will be set up to sell hand
made items. The final item was a
discussion on changing the baking
booth at the Bean Festival to a craft
booth. The next meeting will be
held April 6, all are welcome to at-
tend.

ZURICH - Last Tuesday evening the Home Aux-
iliary members visited Blue Water Rest Home for
their monthly meeting and to entertain the residents.
Maria Mathonia, Cecilia Farwell and Gladys Ginge-
,rich were in charge of the entertainment and a
• cheesecake lunch. The residents were warmed by
George Mathonia playing his accordion and his
wife Maria joined him in a duet in German and Far-
well.read a poem to the residents.

Our condolences to the family ofthe late Maurice
Napoleon Durand who passed away at South Huron
Hospital, Exeter on Sunday, March 7. Durand and
his wife Gertrude have been residents of Maple -
woods Apartments since March 1987. Formerly the
Durands had lived in the Dashwood area.
