VARNA - Fifteen members Of
the Varna Shuffleboard Group
played in a mini toumament at the
Stanley Township Complex on
Wednesday night.
Four game winners were, for the
men Ross McDonald 272, Charles
Reid 214, women high were No-
rene Hayter 296 and Margaret Elli-
ot251.
Local Varna girls Heather and
Valerie Laurie and Heather Beier -
ling, members of the Seaforth and
District High School All Girls
Marching Band returned home
from Fort Meyers, Florida.
They competed in the Thomas
Edison Pageant of Light Parade
Competition and brought home sec-
ond place. This parade attracts over
200,000 spectators and is the sec-
ond largest night parade in the
United States.
After enjoying the Everglades
Gity Boatride, the Band entertained
the local citizens of Gator City
when they staged a parade down its
main streets.
The girls enjoyed "owing around,
shopping and relaxing in the sun
along with their band performance.
Thursday, March 4 at 8 p.m. Var-
na U.C.W. meets with Goshen
U.C.W. for their World Day of
Prayer meeting.
Saturday, March 6, Family Fun
Night will be held at the Stanley
Complex from 8-11 p.m. Ladies
please bring finger desserts. Bring
your family out and enjoy this time
together.
On Sunday, February 28, Wil-
liam (B1) Coultes and Mark Web-
ster attended a Karate Shiai, held in
Exeter. This was Mark's first tour-
nament since starting karate in Sep-
tember of 1992. He placed fifth in
Kate (forms) in the 16. and up in
Men's division white and yellow
belts. As for B.J., he took home a
second place in Kate (forms), first
place in Weapons, first place in
team Kate, with team mates Annie
Crow and Amanda Briches and he
took a first place in Kumite (fight-
ing). Overall BJ. was presented
with the Grand Championship Tro-
phy for Children's Division 15 and
under. All the students from the
club did well with the club trophy
being held by Holmesvil a once
again. Congratulations to all com-
petitors and especially to BJ. and
Mark for a job well done.

on the back when budget time
comes around? Claiming to have
reduced your tax bill, when in fact •
all they are doing is taking money
out of your other pocket. When
has any government rolled back
taxes? A waste reduction plan is to
reduce the amount of garbage
now, to save money later.
In my opinion, this plan of tag-
ging garbage bags will not reduce
the amount of garbage going into
the landfill site. People will just

Dear Councillors:
Re: Snowmobiles on private
property
I formally object to snowmobile
operators going right across our
lawns, our flower beds, within mi-
lirneters of our evergreens, our
berry bushes, across our strawber-
ry patches, and other perennial
vegetable beds.
My husband and I spoke politely
to three snowmobile operators re-
cently, requesting them to please
stay off and spread the word to
their friends. Within hours we
watched them go smack across the l
strawberry beds as well as
the front lawns.
If village
councillors see
fit to make a
fuss over little cats
and any damage
those innocent,
light-footed little critters might do,
I certainly hope they'll find the time
and resources to do something
about the real damage done by
these snowmobile operators.
