Participants raised over $2,000 which will be used to purchase World Book Educational Products for the school. Exeter U.C.W. December meeting EXETER - The members of the afternoon unit met at 2 p.m. Thurs- day with Marian Dougall presiding. She opened the meeting with a Christmas poem. Carolyn Johns visited the meet- ing and made a plea for more baby- sitters for the "Time -Out group. Sev- eral offered to help. It was decided to give Christmas gifts to the residents of Braemor Manor with a committee of Laura Sillery, Doris Sillcry, and Mary Baechler. Receipts from the bazaar were $3,739.00 and it was decided to hold the bazaar the third Saturday of October. Quilting report was giv- en with approximately $2,000 raised this year and several quilts to complete next spring. Card report was given. Doris Denham reported several books had been bought for the li- brary from Mitchell. Mavis Atthill, president of the General U.C.W., reported S10,000 given to the church. Alma Langtord was chairlady 01 the program with The Spirit of Christmas Theme. She was assisted by Luella Taylor, Laura Dickey, Dougall, Marion Dearing, Vera Mills, and Doris Sillery. Each read a story pertaining to Christmas fol- lowed by singing Silent Night. Alma Langford read "A Christ- mas Story" which was very impres- sive. Benediction followed. All angels, the kindergarten classes of St. Boniface Separate School performed their final number of their Christmas Concert Monday evening for a full house of appreciative parents. New club formed at Zurich Public School ZURICH - "Challenging experience" and "lots of fun" were just a couple of the rave reviews for a new club that was A;pf.3 formed at Zurich Public School. Along with volunteer instructor Ron McKay, Zurich teacher Tracy Potter formed the club in October and just finished their season. Potter, who always enjoyed the sport during her school years, felt badminton would give students with some free time on a Thursday evening a strictly recreational event where they could come out and enjoy themselves and get some exer- cise at the same time. "1f they arc not on a hockey team, they don't have many recreational things to do." Potter stated. . Thc club which concluded last Thursday finished off their season with a pizza party. Members of the club were Joey Forrester, Richard Desjardinc, Ryan Momson, Tamara Cook, Jim Denomme, Dwight Beierling, Alisha Es- tep, Connie Gingerich, Julie Semple, Laurie Hesse, Rayna Milne, Julia Geiger, Nathan Hutton, Greg Quick, Becky Kirk, Jennifer Wilbee and Jennifer Erb. The third and final BIA shopping spree was held Friday evening at Darling's Food Market. The winner was Jan Collings of RR 1, Hensall, who gathered up $439.75 in groceries in the five-minute rush on the aisles. Bean Sprouts hold Christmas concert By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - The Bean Sprouts nursery school will be holding their Christmas concert at the Zurich Public School on Thursday, De- cember 17 at 7:15 p.m. Draws will also be made on their fund raising raffle tickets. Anyone interested in registering their two -and -a -half to five-year- old children at the Bean Sprouts Nursery School in January can still do so by calling either Sylvia Neeb at 236-4042 or Carolyn Mathonia at 236-4388 as.soon as possible. Volleyball and hockey A fund raising volleyball and hockey tournament took place over the weekend at the arena. Proceeds went to the Rec League hockey team. The 'A' champs in volleyball were Family Affair, Gerard Masse's team, while Seaforth cap- tured the hockey title. Santa visits Once again Santa made his visit to the Tender Spot grocery store Friday night treating children to candy. Santa will be back in town again Saturday, December 19 at the are- na. CWL The SL Boniface CWL held their last meeting on Tuesday with a special prayer service in honor of Our Lady of Good council which was said at mass. At the meeting president Audrey Smith reported on the new stove purchased for the kitchen and some supplies. A quilt will be set up at the church early in January for quilt- ing. Fun Night will be held on February 9 in Stratford at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Broth- er Bob's Bingo is set for Sunday, February 28 from 2-4 p.m. at the arena. Youth group The youth group of St. Boniface enjoyed another Christmas potluck supper Sunday at the home of Karl and Mary Regier. Christmas concert The kindergarten students of St. Boniface performed their concert for parents on Monday. Christmas banquets An adult Christmas banquet was held Friday for members of the Zu- rich Mennonite Church fellowship. As well, those attending the Unit- ed Church held their congregation- al dinner last Sunday. Bus trip Thc Lutheran Church sponsored a bus trip to Frankenmuth, Michi- gan Sunday with many taking part. The bus was driven by Glen Thiel. The group attended the annual Ad- vent Christmas service. Brownies The Brownies held their meeting last Tuesday in the form of a winter wonderland enrollment night at St. Boniface School. Christmas carols were sung by the girls who were dressed in scarves and hats. A pot- luck dinner and social followed. Ladies auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary held their December meeting in the form of a Christmas party for the residents. A musical program was enjoyed and Santa arrived to hand out presents. The new microwave was put to the test and plans were discussed to buy a clock for the auditorium and a vacuum cleaner for the cleaning staff. The birthday party was held Thursday by the Zurich United Church Ladies. Marie Gelinas gave her report from the nominating committee with the new executive installed at the January 5 meeting, Tuesday at 7 p.m. Personals Abbey and Wilma Erb returned home recently from Florida. Paul and Heather Gingerich spent four days in Ottawa visiting friends Jon and Elaine Winter in Orleans and celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. Best wishes for a speedy recov- ery is extended to Maria Kenda, a patient at Victoria Hospital, to Mat- thew Ducharme and Andrew Kuep- fer who are at home recuperating, and to Gwen McEachem who is a patiert at Exct r Hospital. Sincere sympathy is expressed to the family of Howard Finkbeiner. The family of Tom and Marion Haggitt held their Christmas dinner at the Dominion Tavern Sunday. Avon representatives Jean Arm- strong, Jeanne Hay and Carmel Sweeney enjoyed going to Brussels last Monday for their annual lunch- eon and meeting. Verda Baechler spent a few days visiting with her sister Erma and Floyd Buehler at St. Jacobs. Birthday wishes go to Karen Shanks, Billy Hay, Darryl Regier.
