EXETER It mayhave been just
what the doctor ordered.
In the -second :period of -Friday
night's OHA Development League
game inExeter, the hosting Hawks
and the Seaforth Centenaires were
involved in a very big fight which
saw 13 players ejected.
Trailing 6-3 just before the brawl
broke out, the Hawks went on to
score five in a row and win 8-6.
"It seemed to spark us. We
haven't had anything to get en-
thused about all year," said Hawks'
coach George Pratt. "It sure
-pumped everyone up from then
on."
How the altercation began is not
totally clear, but it appeared as
though - Exeter defenseman Jamie
Cornish skated past Seaforth- goalie
Dana Dusckocy after scoring the
third Beater '-geal and then gave
Du ekocy stump.
Referee Paul Petrie ejected Cor-
nish, Clint McCann, Paul Manders,
David Dalrymple, Paul O'Hara and
Jason McBride from the Hawks
while Duskoey, Bruce Yssetstein,
Brian Zimmer, Shawn Morton, Ja-
mie Ramer, Shawn Millen, and
Jeff Flanagan were kicked out for
the Cents.
Flanagan failed to go to the

AH the Hawks ejected, except for
Cornish, will sit out Friday's game
with Mitchell because they were
the third -man into the fight.
This :game looked as though it
would be a blow out for the Cents
as they went up 4-1 in the first peri-
od on goals by Brian Taylor, Ray
Cherry, Jamie Hislop and Morton.
Seaforth extended their lead to 6-
2 as Paul McLwain and Jason
McNichol gave the visitors a big
four goal cushion. But aftcr Cor-
nish's goal and then the fights. the
tables turned. Dalrymple and
Shayne Robinson scored the first
two goals for Exeter.
"1t got me up, it got me keen to
play." said Hawks' high -scoring
forward Sean McCann of the fight.
After Petrie halted the game with
about six minutes to go in the sec-
ond period, Paul Batton and
McCann scored just 37 seconds
apart which pulled the Hawks to
within one.
Just 58 ticks into the third period,
Steve Farquhar called up from the
Exeter midgets, tied the game at six
all and then McCann added two
more for good measure.
"He (McCann) plays his best
when he gets more ice time," said
Pratt
McCann saw a lot of ice time in
the third period as the Hawks were
down to just ] 2 skaters.
"I like it, it gets you going and
into the game, more," said McCann.
He agreed with Pratt that the
fight may have helped turned
things around for the Hawks who
are now 11-7 and in the west divi-
sion.
"Hopefully that turned it around.
We needed a turning point. We
have a big game on Friday against
Mitchell."
McCann leads the team in scor-
ing with 39 points. He's played two
games with the Junior B' St. Marys
Lincolns but•admitted he can't rush
his hockey career.
