Manager defends player
Dear Editor.
My cranks to your reporter Mr. Pied
Oroves for confirming to all readers that Ex-
eter Mohawk player Ron Elliott did indeed
spear player Shawn Reaume of the Strathroy
Sharks. However,'from his vantage point he
also reported seeing Mr. Resume "Bury his
stick" in Mr. Elliott's stomach. This presents
some questions concerning his eyesight.
From the visitors bench it appeared some
contact was made between the two players
resulting in Mr. Elliott's reaction of using his
suck in an indiscriminate manner.
I must make you aware that Mr. Reaume is
not deserving of such innuendo. Shawn is a this time.

sitting out a month with a career threatening
shoulder injury, and -1 am positive he has nev
er shown any malice towards an opponent as
indicated by your reporter. In the 1991-92
season Shawn received the grand total of one
minor penalty and was voted most sports-
manlike player in the Seaway Sr. Hocked
League.
Mr. Elliott also is respected in my eyes as a
skilled hockey player well deserving of top
detenceman in a season previous to this one.
1 acknowledge that his action was spontaneous
and definitely not pre -meditated which brings
me to the point of my outburst towards Mr
Whaley,the referee of the evening.
Mr. Whaley chose to ignore the incident as if
he didn't -see it happen, which is hard to under-
stand as it was obviously quite noticeable.
His indifference was in total disregard to pol-
icies handed down from the O.H.A. President
through -the member teams to promote a
healthy image. Enclosed is a letter from the
O.H.A. President -to the senior hockey chair-
man outlining these intentions.
Three apologies are forthcoming from me at
and friends many of whom live in Exeter as
you are aware.
Third to the staff of the South Huron Rec.
Centre who had to clean up my symbolic state-
ment to the job I felt Mr. Whaley had done.
My team members refused my apologies as
they feel I had given them some protection pat
the referee had not.
Respectfully,
Bill Bourne

the Mohawks had to call up four
players from the Junior D -Hawks.
On a much brighter note. veteran
netmutder Rick Pikul was ready to
lace Walpole Island. At the end of
last year's OHA championship sea-
son. Pikul said he was retiring.
So why has he changed his
mind"
"1 guess I've been sitting around
for two months. This is my exer-
cise." said Pikul.
At 32, he has been the mainstay
for several Mohawks' champion-
ship teams
Pikul is quite surprised with the
state of senior hockey
"Colonial Hockey coming in is
4gomg to hurt Senior 'A' hockey."
He said that -professional league

But he seemed to be glad to be
back on the ice Sunday, taking
warmup and even participated in a
scrimmage in place of the game.

Mohawks 9., Creemore 4
Only. a dozen Exeter players
made the two -and -a -half hour trip
to Creemore on Saturday but they
were rewarded with a win.
In the first meeting of the two
teams this year, Joe Scherer had a
big night with three goals and as
many assists. He leads the team in
scoring with 22 goals and 15 assists
in just 10 games.
Andre Prevost netted two tallies
with singles off the sticks of Gore
Brooks, Cork Melee, Richard
Hawkins and Jeff Warren .
