Wrap-up time for
the Hensall Library

HENSALL - Hensall Library is winding down from a very busy sum-
mer. The Animal Antics Summer Reading Program has been a huge suc-
cess with 40 children taking part.
A wrap-up video night Thursday, September 3 will conclude the sum-
mer's activities at the Library. All 6-10 year olds are welcome Thursday
evening at 7 p.m.
On Monday it was pre-schoolers fun time at the branch. The small but
enthusiastic group enjoyed a film, some fun games and a Winnie -the -Pooh
craft.
Storyhour for the three, four and five -year-olds will resume at the Hen-
sall Library on Monday, September 21 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. This pro-
gram runs alternate Mondays and you must pre -register your pre-schooler
in advance. Please call Susan at 262-2445 or 262-2449 to register.
Also at the Hensall Branch is a new collection of videos as well as audio
cassettes.

Tinker Tots
Tinker Tots Nursery School of Hensall will be opening it's doors in Sep-
tember with a new teacher. Jennifer Pfaff is the enthusiastic instructor who
has joined the Tinker Tot's team.
If you are interested in involving your child in a nursery school environ-
ment two mornings a week, call 262-2449 for more information. A parent -
participating co-op presents a unique opportunity for a mutual learning ex-
perience between teacher, child and parent. The parents cut the cost of run-
ning the school by working as teacher's aides as well as administering the
business aspects of the school.
Drop -In
Did you know that everyone is welcome at the Hensall and Area Adult
Community Drop In.
They meet the third Thursday of every month at 11:45 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at
Hensall United Church.
They have community speakers, and public health persons available for
consultation. A foot care service is also provided. There are those who par-
ticipate in line dancing, Tai Chi, community dance, games and other dem-
onstrations. 1t is a great_timefor fun, fellowship, food and social belong-
ingness. Cost is $4.00 per person.

HENSALL - Monday morning,
Fun and Fitness got everyone off to
a good start. You can't possibly feel
sluggish after exercise, games and
singing. Baking Club met in the af-
ternoon and mixed up delicious
Chocolate Chip cookies from a rec-
ipe in the Queensway Cook Book,
which is available for sale at $6.00
a copy.
Shirley Luther led worship ser-
vice Tuesday afternoon. Everyone
all enjoyed hearing her Salvation
Army band tape, she accompanied
with her tambourine.
Lil' Abner was viewed by several
residents Thursday afternoon
prompting some nostalgic feelings.

Seniors entertained Thursday eve-
ning before a large crowd, at the
monthly Birthday Party. George
Godbolt on piano and his daughter
singing entertained with music
from the Sound of Music and some
old time favourites. Cara Gardiner
and her Ottawa friend assisted resi-
dents with dancing. Birthday greet-
ings to Jeanette McDonald and
Iona Leiboid.
Resident Council met Friday
morning to discuss issues and corn-
ing events. Residents took part in
some corn husking Friday after-
noon. Five dozen cobs were husked
in record time with many hands
making light work. Audrey Christie
was Rest Home Euchre volunteer
Friday afternoon.

Sixth Annual Flower Show held
HENSALL - The Hensall Horti-
culture Society held its sixth annu-
al Flower Show al the Hensall
United Church last Wednesday
night with a record number of ex-
hibits displayed.
Twenty-five members showed
their flora and fauna for a total of
230 exhibits which were judged by
Fran Cultiton of Stratford. A photo
contest was also part of the event
and were judged by Hensall pho-
tographer Dan Holm.
Helen Turner won the highest
number of points followed by Bill
Gibson and Sandra Turner. Helen
also managed to win the arrantre-
ment #48 category as well.
Gibson also won the arrangement
#50 category and received a special
prize donated by Janis Bisback
from Church House Antiques for
the best snapdragon.
The best rose, flower garden pic-
ture and arrangement #49 section
were also won by Sandra and she
took third place in the single flower
or plant category.
Herman VanWieren took second
place in the four seasons photo cat-
egory and the flower garden picture
as well as winning the single flow-
er or plant category.
Donna Tannahil had the most
points among the vegetable section
and arrangement #53 entries. Win-
nie Skea had the third best flower
garden picture and the second best
single flower or plant.
Other winners were Cathy Bell
with the best gladiola, Hazel Cor-
bett with the best dahlia, Olga
Chipchase with the best potted
plant, Michelle Turner for the best
arrangement #51 and Jane Van-
Wieren won the four seasons photo
section.
Prizes for the show were donated
by Ron's Health Centre, Queens-
way Nursing Home and Big 0.
