CORUNNA - It was a great
weekend for Exeter soccer as three
• travel teams competed at the 2nd
annual Moore . Township Minor
Soccer Tournament in Corunna
near Sarnia, with -the new Exeter
Thunder bringing home the cham-
pionship in their division.
The Thunder, who play in the un-
der 14 age division, swept all three
games in pool play Saturday, and
didn't allow a goal against.
In their first match, Exeter
-_knocked . ettf . Wallaoeburg by a
Hoare of 3.0. Ryan Carroll scored
the fust tournament goal of the sea-
son for the Thunder, with singles
later added by Jeff MacLean and
Chad Gilfillan.
In the next game, the Sarnia Po-
lice. proved no match for the Exet-
er. The Thunder took control of
the game ver early on goals from
David and MacLean.
The rest of the match was all Exet-
er as they cruised to a 6-0 victory.
Farquhar and MacLean both had a
pair while singles came from Luke
Sims and Mark Bell.
The third match pitched the
Thunder against team J.J. Again it
was no contest as Exeter rolled up
a 4-0 victory. Goals came from
Farquhar, MacLean, Bryon Eller-
ington and Jeff Sararas.
On Sunday, the Thunder returned
to play the final match against the
host team, Moore Township. Once
again, the Exeter squad proved too

Centennials IQse out in Ontario _Cup

SARNIA - A lack of manpower
proved cosily for the Exeter Cen-
tennials Saturday afternoon. as they
lost out in the first round of the On-
tario Cup to the Sarnia Bluewater
Flame in Sarnia by a score of 3-0.
Exeter, forced to go with only
one substitute for the game, found
themselves in a hole early as Blue -
water took advantage of a strong
bench. The Flame, who currently
sit atop the Western Ontario Soccer
League standings, took it to the
Centennials opening a 2-0 lead at
halftime.
Exeter found themselves unable
to mount much of an attack in the
second half, and spent most of the
game on the defensive side. Blue -
water managed to slip a third goal
into the net late in the second half
to help preserve the victory.
Goalkeeper Craig Winbow and
sweeper Pat Donnelly played ex-
ceptional in spite of the loss.
The next game for the Centenni-
als will be Sunday, June 21 at 4
p.m. when they host Sarnia Dante.
