London bounces beck, beat Pacers
HURON PARK - Despite taking an early 1-0 lead,
the Huron Park Pacers were beaten 3-1 by visiting
London Royals in Western Ontario Women's Hockey
League action Saturday night.
Less than three minutes into the game, the Pacers
got on,th;. board when captain Yvonne Wells scored
from Sheri Pickering. Wellss-was shaken up in the sec-
ond period by a hard hit in front of the Royals' bench
which seemed to take some of her steam away
There were 10 penalties called in the game, seven of
them to the host Pacers mostly out of retaliation.
"It was rough. It's supposed to be non -contact." said
Pacers' manager Marj Green.
London tied the score late in the opening frame
when Karen Brock let one go from the point off the
draw, which hit a stick and bounced over Tess Neth'
ery's shoulder.
It was 2-1 for the visitors with bust 1:07 left in the
middle period as Brock got her second of the night al -
ter Nether), made the initial pad save.
"We haven't played in a while but that's no excuse.
We should beat these guys," said Omen.
With the Pacers' spending time in the penalty Box,
Sue Hatch and Tina Campbell were Called on to do
some outstanding penalty killing and came very close
to sewing a couple of shorthanded goals..
A tastbreak caught the Huron Park detence off guard
as the Royals got their third goal early in- the final
frame
With ten games left in their regular schedule, the Pac-
ers will soon be looking towards the playoffs -and the
provincial tournament.
"We have to have a playdown with Sarnia, were both
_B'," said Green of a bert$.in the Ontario final tourna-
ment.
Next home game for the •Pacers is February 8 when
they host Sarnia at the Stephen Township Arena at 8:30
p.ni' Huron Park is also in the Wallaceburg Tourna-
ment on February 14-17)
