Dashwood by Bernice Boyle DASHWOOD - Twenty Dash- wood Women's Institute members and friends enjoyed a Christmas dinner and program on December 6 at Allen's Cafe. Carol singing followed. A reading, "Christmas is Many Things" was given by president Katherine "Becker in which each member gave an ap- propriate reply. This was followed by a "Password Game". Members are to remember their Secret Pal at Christmas. Draw priz- es were won by Dorothy Restemay- er, Gerrie McCrae, Frieda Keller, Aldene Wolfe and Mildred Keller- man. The next meeting is January 7 at 8 p.m. at the Dashwood community centre. The roll call is to be an- swered with a joke or riddle. Personals Mrs. Aldene Wolfe and her fami- ly attended the funeral Sunday of the late George Wolfe, West Hill. He was the last surviving son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wes Wolfe. Sur- vived by him is one daughter Clau- dine Wolfe. The G.N.O. Bridge Club held their annual Christmas dinner at the Zurich Hotel, Thursday, December 5. After they played cards and ex- changed gifts at Aldene Wolfe's home. Annual Christmas dinner held In Varna By Joan Beierling VARNA - Varna U.C.W. had their Annual Pot Luck Christmas dinner last Thursday evening with members, former members and friends attending from various plac- es despite the stormy evening. Following the delicious dinner some ladies went back into the past and told some humorous and touch- ing childhood memories of Christ- mas. Willi Laurie favored everyone with two solos "My Hopes are High" and "Heirlooms". Ruby Hill read a reading "The Spirit of the Season" and then the "Great Christ- mas Story" was portrayed. Deb Rathwell played the part of Mary - showing her feelings, doubts and fears of having baby Jesus with Ruby Hill playing the very effec- tive part of the Angel. Olive Phil- lips was the narrator. Joyce Dow - son played the part of Rachel. Throughout the skit various Christ- mas hymns were sang appropriate for the story. Joyce read a reading "Keep Christ in Christmas". Rev. George Philips ended the meeting with a prayer and the benediction. Many people from the area at- tended the Christmas dinner and dance held at the Stanley complex last Saturday night. Parties there were Stanley Township, Hill and Hill, Varna Feed Mill, Seaforth- Clinton, Veterinary Clinics, and Bell Canada. Last Sunday was the second Sun- day of Advent and at the Varna Church Service Carol and George Simons lit the Candle of Peace. Sunday, December 15 at 11 a.m. the church service will be a com- bined Varna -Goshen service held at the Stanley Complex followed by a potluck lunch of sandwiches and cookies. Hot and cold drinks to be supplied. Following lunch the com- bined Christmas concert will be held. Sunday, December 22 the Church Services will be as usual but the Carol Candlelight Service will be at 7:30 that evening in Varna. Annual reports will be needed to be handed in by December 15 ei- ther to Linda Linfield for Goshen and George Philips for Varna. It was decided the January 1992 meeting will be an afternoon meeting beginning at 2 p.m. in the complex. The program committee of No- rene and Elmer Hayter and Marga- ret and Mervyn Hayter arranged an old time Christmas Concert. It be- gan with a sing -a -long of Christmas carols and songs led by Norene and accompanied by Floyd McAsh. George Phillips gave a welcome recitation. A Stan Lee Boys Chorus sang three numbers.
