number of admissions for the sea-
son, which concluded November
10, was 479,273 for theatre perfor-
mances, off five percent from
504,477 admissions in 1990.
"The reduction in admissions
from 1990 to 1991 reflected the dif-
ficult economy experienced during
the past year" said the Festival's
General Manager, Gary Thomas.
"There is no question that the pro-
ductions presented in the 1991 sea-
son were highly regarded by our
audiences and the critics alike, so
that, although the outcome is down
from the previous year, it is a good
result in the economic circumstanc-
es. It also should be remembered
--- that the Festival absorbed the im-
pact of the Goods and Services Tax
in its ticket prices in 1991."
The gross box office revenue fig-
ure was $15.4 million. All figures
reported are net of the Goods and
Services Tax.
The 1991 season opened May 27
(student and senior performances
and previews began April 29).
There were 14 productions (with a
total of 561 performances) present-
ed in Stratford's three theatres.
