Robinson nets hat trick Hawks hand Irish first loss By Ray Lewis ,, LUCAN - If ever the Exeter Hawks needed ashot of confi- dence, theygotit Wednesday night in Lucan against the Irish. With a new work ethic injected into their system, the Hawks looked impres- sive m a 7-5 victory, dealing Lucan their first loss of the regular season in OHA Development (Junior 'D) action. "It started last weekend against Lambeth," said coach John Ker - nick. "I felt we probably played our best game of the season, but we only played two periods. Tonight we came to play all three." Rookie Shayne Robinson paced the attack with a hatrick, and seemed to inspire the troops. Ja- mie Cornish played a strong game on defense and centre Mark Reid ,had probably his best game of the season."Shayne and Reider both played very well tonight," said Kernick. "But there was a lot of second ef- fort from everyone." Deadlocked at four ibe Hawks sec - and when Dave Dalrymple teamed up with Derek Slwkkt�ou trod Paul Manders. Early in the third, Exeter in- creased their lead to tRbhison completed his hatrick. The Hawks kept the pressure on and finally put the game out of reh when Dalrymple fed Manders for a breakaway. Manders made a nice move on Lucan netminder Mark Dunn, flipping the puck high into the top left comer. Scott Amos of the Irish added a goal with one second remaining on the clock to make it closer. After the game, coach Kenrick said he felt good about knocking off the league leading Irish, but warned his players about becoming overconfident. The game OHA Development (Junior D') game was played in Ilderton as a fund raiser for that village's minor hockey association. Greg DePrest and Paul O'Shea had two goals as the Irish ran their record to 9-1-2. The Irish host Lambeth Lancers tonight and on Friday travel to Mitchell. Also scoring against the Flyers were Ed VanKerltoerle and Jon McEach- ern. Exeter 5, Port Stanley 2 Josh Symons made 29 saves as the Hawks handled the Lakers 5-2 for their second win on the week. Providing the offence for Exeter was Ray Cousineau with two goals and a couple of assists while Andrew Barton, Dave Dalrymple and Doug Clark also scored. Barton and Jamie Cornish were both ejected for fighting in the third pe- riod. Exeter now 7-8-0 in the west division, host Belmont on Friday and travel to Mt. Brydges on Saturday. __ Despite the Intense rivalry which has long been a tradition between the Exeter Hawks and Lucan Irish, players still take time to display a little sportsmanship. Panther comer Girls basketball teams end season By Kerry Manders STRATFORD - On Tuesday the midget girls basketball team com- peted in the final tournament here at Northwestern. The Panthers lost a very close 46- 41 decision to Stratford Central. Heather Davies played an excep- tional game scoring 16 points while !Carey Youmans netted 10. South Huron's next game was just as tense but this time they won 44- 40. Davies had 10 points and Tara Pepper added nine. That put the Panthers into the consolation final where they came up short 36-28 against Stratford St. Mike's. Davies had one of her best games of the Tip-off tourney begins Friday EXETER - This weekend the South Huron senior boys basketball team will host their annual tournament to begin the season. Montcalm and Medway will tip-off at 3:30 p.m. followed by St. Clair against College Avenue, Central Huron against North Middlesex and the host Panthers take on St. Joseph's at 8 p.m. Championship and consolation finals go Saturday night. Spectators are welcome. Hockey team wins two, spikers beaten at WOSSA SEAFORTH - The boys hockey team made it two in a row on Wednesday as they downed Sea - forth 6-0 behind good efforts from David Schwindt and Ryan Linden - field. Both scored a pair of goals while Matt Gardner and Jim Ahrens also connected. Goalie Andy Glavin had the shutout for a team _which had several players ntlssmgdue to ill- ness. South Huron opened their 12 - game schedule on November 6 with a 6-4 win over St. Mikes. To- day they host Central Huron, the team which eliminated them in the playoffs a year ago. Volleyball: The senior boys vol- leyball team competed at WOSSA 'AA' on Saturday where they fin- ished third in their pool. They lost to Medway 7, 15, 13-15 and came back to beat Strathroy 15-13 and 15-10. The Panthers lost 9-15 and 7-15 to Tillsonburg. South Huron's senior team looks to rebuild next year as Chris Gard- ner, Chris Angerman, Jesse Mor - rice and Peter McAllister all gradu- ate_ leaving Dan Martens, Dan Masse and Darryl Chappel.
