Vanastra to
become new
community
school
VANASTRA - Plans are un-
derway for the Vanastra Public
School to become a community
school, as the Huron County
Board of Education attempts to
get the jump on a $50 million
Multi -Use School Fund provid-
ed by the Ministry of Education.
The idea is to enhance the ex-
isting building which will not
only accommodate students, but
also provide various services
and recreational facilities to the
community. After long-term
renovations have been done, it is
expected the school may house
evening programs for youths,
courts for basketball and tennis,
support services for children, a
theatre and a library.
Renovations
needed for
community
centre
SEAFORTH - Local interest
groups are investigating the pos-
sibility expanding or modifying
the current Seaforth and District
Community Centre to house a
gymnasium facility.
The Community Centres com-
mittee, Seaforth Recreation and
Parks Committee, Seaforth Agri-
cultural Society and the Seaforth
District High School have all ex-
pressed interest in the plan, es-
pecially the high school.
At present time the Ministry
of Education does not have the
funding to improve the school
facilities, and it has insufficient
gymnasium space to operate
programs it is now running.

Exeter IOOF celebrates
By Garnet Hicks
EXETER - The fall season has
been a busy period for Exeter IOOF
No. 67 (Independent Order of Odd
Fellows).
Exeter Lodge officers were in-
stalled in an excellent manner on
October 29 by DDGM Bro. Roy El-
liptt of Huron District No. 8 and his
Installing team from Clinton Lodge
No. 83.
As Exeter No. 67 is now well
over 100 years old, several mem-
bers are celebrating 60 years of
membership and on the night of in-
stallation DDGM Elliott on behalf
of Grand Lodge presented Mervyn
Cudmore of Exeter Lodge No. 67
with a 60 -year jewel and Exeter
Lodge presented Cudmore with a
framed 60 -year certificate signed
by the Grand Master.
On November 5 Grand Master
Harold Eyre and his wife made his
official visit to Huron District No.
8. A delicious roast beef dinner was
served at the White Carnation Res-
taurant, Holmesville.
Eyre presented a thought-
provoking address to an open meet-
ing and outlined the many acts of
benevolence which the Odd Fel-
lows promoted. Another speaker at
the meeting was Robert Mizzi of
Exeter. Robert, a student at the
South Huron High School, was the
winner of the United Nations pub-
lic speaking contest sponsored by
the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs in
Huron. Mizzi, along with other
winners across Canada and the
United States, visited the United
Nations and other places. He de-
scribed his trip from Ottawa down
through the Eastern States. The
sights in New York and visits at-
tending sessions at the United Na-
tions and other points of interest
were made very interesting by the!
manner in which he addressed the
