OWEN SOUND - The Exeter Hotspur ended their
season on the right note this weekend, capturing the ti-
tle at the Owen Sound 15 -and -under Select Tourna-
ment.
After spending most of the summer competing
against teams in a higher age bracket, Exeter fatally
met teams on equal terms.
In their first game on Saturday, the Hotspur were in
tough competition against Listowel and showed little
spark dropping the match 4-0.
Exeter then met Wasaga, and regained some of their
old form as they maintained control throughout the
game. Chad Gilfillan paced the locals' attack with
three goals, and singles were chipped in by Souban In-
lakhana, Sean McCann and Viengxay Inthavong.
On Sunday, the Hotspur played their best game of
the tournament against a tough Owen Sound squad. In

a very even contest, Exeter got a break when they were
awarded a penalty shot, after an Owen Sound defense -
man played the ball with his hands inside the penalty
area. Marty DeBruyn scored to give Exeter a 1-0 lead.
Midway through the second half, the locals added
some insurance when DeBruyn scored on another pen-
alty shot after he was tackled on a breakaway. Darren
Kints earned the shutout in the 2-0 victory.
Exeter's mord earned them a birth in the finals Sun-
day afternoon, and gave them a shot at redemption in a
rematch against Listowel. The Hotspur took a quick 2-
0 lead with goals from McCann and Inlakhana. After
Listowel made it 2-1, Gilfillan notched the game win-
ner and his fourth of the tournament, as Exeter went on
to win 5-2. Mark Foster and Bryan McAllister each
tallied an insurance goal.
