Windsor fans 11, Lord has two
doubles as Crediton beats Exeter
CREDITON - Hard throwing

backed Crediton to a 3-0 shutout
win over the Exeter Greys here
Monday, night.
Going into lait night's game in
Exeter, the best-of-thren Huron -
Perth Ladies Fastball League semi-
final playoff series was tied at a
game each. The winner will take
on either St. Marys or St. Pauls.
A year ago, Exeter had a strong
regular season before bowing to
Crediton in the semi-finals .
Last Tuesday night, the Greys
had lots of hits as they rolled to a
12-1 win but Monday, only Dianne
Willis could manage a single in the
fifth inning.
Crediton got to Exeter pitcher
Patti Down early when they plated
a run in the second inning. Deb
Lord lead off with a double and
with one out, scored on Kelly
Prouse's sacrifice fly.
The rally stayed alive in the next
Bwing when Jane Howley and
renda Wilds had back-to-back sin-
gles with one out and after a walk
to Theresa McGee loaded the bas-
es, Lord had another double to give
Crediton a 3-0 lead.
Defensively, , Crediton retired the
side m oraer m all seven innings.

was tossed out at second.
Bantam Royals In semis
EXETER - While the senior Royals are heading into the league
playoffs, their farm team, the bantam Royals are attempting to win the Us -
borne Fastball League.
Sunday night they downed powerhouse Lieury 12-5. Exeter pitcher
Steve Cook not only struck out 12 but connected with a key two run sin-
gle in the third inning.
When Cook stepped to the plate, Exeter held a slim 4-3 lead. The two
teams met again Monday with the winner of the best -of -three series ad-
vancing to the final against Fullerton.
Earlier in the week in OASA playoff action, the bantam Royals were
eliminated Thursday by Londesborough who beat Exeter 12-5. Londesbo-
rough plated nine runs in the seventh and final inning.
Last Tuesday the Royals evened the series with a 3-2 win in Exeter.
Dennis Gower was the winning pitcher and Ken Hines had a two nm
homer. Cook also delivered a single which scored the winning run.

Exeter ends regular season with impressive 18-8 record
By Fred Groves
Winning by default is not glam-
orous, sure it adds ugh another two
points, but it doesn't give much
credibility to the team you've beat-
en.
The Exeter Royals were sched-
uled to travel to Sebringville on
Thursday to take on the Stratford
Steelers, a phone call notified the
Royals they had won by default.
Sunday afternoon Exeter was
supposed to host Shakespeare
Colts, another default and another
two points. Even if the Colts and
the Steelers would have won they
wouldn't have qualified for the 'A'
division playoffs.
What those two teams did in-
stead was pad the Royals chances
to make the top group for post -
season play.
A 2-1 win Sunday night over the
Nighthawks in St. Marys didn't
hurt either.
"They didn't see any benefit even
if they won," said Exeter coach
Fred Cook of the Colts and the
Steelers.
"You can't assume we would
have won them this late in the sea-
son."
With the four wins last week,
which included a 9-0 blanking over
Fullerton, the Royals finished the
season with an impressive 18-8
record. They've won their last nine
league games.
The two defaulted games gave
the Royals, especially ace pitcher
Derwyn Hodgins a rest. Cook was
undecided on whether or not those
games should have been played.
"That's up to the league, we made
ourselves available."
Exeter now heads into the
playoffs, which matchup were be-
ing determined Monday night.
Cook said a month ago when his
club was 10-8, he didn't expect to
Brent Dawson
...key hits
finish with 18 wins.
"A month ago no, at the start of
the year yes, I thought we'd finish
that high."
Royals 2, St. Marys 1
This one was very close and the
only difference was Brent Daw-
son's second inning triple. Steve
Neil singled and Dawson, squaring
to bunt, faked everyone and lined it
into the left field corner. He scored
what proved to be the winner when
Jim Allison was safe on an error.
The Nighthawks came back and
made it close when pitcher Scott
Brookshaw singled. Brookshaw
struck out 13 while Exeter's Der-
wyn
Hodgins had his best outing of
the season fanning 21 of the 36 bat-
ters he faced.
Defensively, Royals' shortstop
Rod Johnston who came in for Dan
Heyweod in the first inning, made
a fine play when he backhanded the
ball, and threw to first from his
Royals 9, Fullerton 0
The home run derby continued
for the Royals Wednesday night as
Graham Nesbitt connected with a a
two -run blast in route to a 9-0 win
over the Fullerton A's.
This one, played in Hensel), saw
the Royals come up with 16 hits off
of A's pitcher Jeff McGee. Catcher
Brian Noyes led the way with a
double and two singles, scoring
three times. Mike Neil had three
singles, one of them to the fence
which scored two runs.
Allison had an rbi triple and a
single while 'Dawson, Sandy Hyde
and Mike Desjardine each had a
pair of singles.
Hodgins started on the mound
for the Royals and in the six in-
nings he pitched, struck out 14 in-
cluding the side in order in the first,
fifth and sixth innings.
The only base hit Hodgins gave
up was a third inning single to Jim
in last
by the
Smith but Smith, in an auempt to
move on a passed ball, was gunned
down by Noyes.
Steve Neil pitched the final three
innings, allowing just a pair olhits.
