Average age of seniors
at home is lower
GODERICH - Even though
there are many programs for sen-
ior citizens in the communities of
Huron County, the average age of
residents at the county's home for
the aged is lower than the provin-
cial level.
Thursday morning in his annual
report to the county, Huronview
administrator Wayne Lester said,
"the provincial average age is 85,
Huronview's is 80.9. I don't know
why ours is lower?"
Lester pointed out, however,
there are 230 residents at the home
compared to 292 in 1987.
Centralia by Mary Kooy
CENTRALIA - A memorial ser-
vice will be held at Centralia Unit-
ed Church on Saturday, June 25 at
11:30 a.m. to honour the memory
of the late Jack Price who passed
away last week. Jack was a resident
of Centralia for many years.
The Centralia U.C.W. will meet
on June 25, with dinner at Three
A's restaurant, Exeter at 6:30 p.m.
Personals.
Clayton, Alice, and Mary Kooy
were guests on Saturday at the
Sovereign Goos wedding at Holy
Trinity Church, Lucan.
Jean Clark of Dunnville visited
with the family for the weekend
and was also a guest at the wed-
ding.
"As we feel the impact of a very
successful home care program, the
number of residents coming to the
home is decreasing," said Lester.
"There are many services for sen-
iors in the community."
The cost to operate Huronview in
1990, as reported by Lester, was
$6,152,848.
Of that, Huron County's portion
is $528,512 or 8.59 percent.
For a senior to reside in Huron -
view for 1990 in the extended care
setting, the cost per year for the
province is $700.80 and $299.30
for the county.
In the 1970s, when Anita moved
to Toronto, she was employed by a
lawyer before taking a position
with the Ontario Legislature.

minded the ladies about the straw-
berry and ham supper, Wednesday,

Twenty area farmers related their
farming problems to the President
Roger George, North Bay.
