AILSA CRAIG - The changing
seasons in our part of the world
help so much to make life exciting
and interesting! so much so that 11
has inspired many a poet to write
an ode to his or her favorite season.
Art Gingerich came out to share
some of his with us. He recited
some from our old readers as well.
Spring wouldn't be quite the same
to some of us without thinking of
the poem about the "host of golden
daffodils" but to those of us who
have heard Art's poem about the
lowly dandelion, those blooms
have brought us delight as well!
For a poetry lover, there is nothing
quite like hearing a poet recite his
own poetry, and Art is a master of
that. He brings a lot of soul delight
when he visits us.
One question we pondered after
Art's visit was, "Do pupils today
learn to appreciate poetry and
rhymes as much as we did?" If not,
they're missing out on a real pleas-
ure!
We do know that they're getting
right in to their history! We all
hoped on to East Williams time ma-
chine and landed at a Medieval
Feast complete with Duke and Earl,
Lords and Ladies, serving wenches
and serfs. We were greeted in style
at the draw bridge before entenng
the "castle" to dine. Our repast con-
sisted of watercress soup; bread,
pork, beef and poultry served with
a plum and fig gravy, greens and
cheese, lots of fresh fruits and gin-
ger cookies. Everyone was &essed
in their fuesL The head gear itself

was something to be seen! It was a
day to be remembered - and per-
haps to be wondered at if you hap-
pened to be one of those who saw
the Craigholme van filled with
Lords and Ladies in period cos-
tume!
The Ailsa Craig and District
Lion's Club gave us a real boost
this month too! They put on one of
their wonderful brunches for our
benefit. Not only did they donate
$231 to us, some of our seniors got
to partake of their goodies as well!
We really appreciate this kind sup-
port. -
A Mystery Trip this month led
us over all kinds of back roads and
out of the way places to our desti-
nation, - lunch at Bellamere Farms
and a tour of Marg's Ceramics be-
fore another round -a -bout way
home. The passengers never know
if the driver knows where she is at
any given time, but we always
find our way there arid back home.
Of course, since it's a Mystery
trip, we never know if it's where
she intended to go or not.
We have had guests at the Cen-
tre too. Our most well-known one
was Jay Campbell, to tell us all
about predicting the weather. We
had spent several days making
weather pictures and writing out
all the ways of predicting weather
we had heard from our parents and
grandparents.
We had posted, them on the
walls for added interest. Imagine
our surprise and delight when Jay
chose to use those sayings as a ba-
sis for his talk. It turns out there
was a lot of truth to most of them.
Jay just told us the scientific rea-
sons for them. Needless to say we
all enjoyed the day.
A week of Italian theme includ-
Hensall Cattle Co.
ed Pizza and Caesar Salads for
lunches and culminated with an-
other favorite. Father Roche
shared his pictures of Rome and
Italy. His armchair tours are al-
ways a delight.
Scarf
Painting' continues to be a
favorite craft. We've had several
newcomers in the last few months,
so it's fun introducing them to the
craft as well as the rest of the pro-
gram. We even had a visitor from
Australia who promised 10 come
back on future visits. Now if we
have clients dedicated to coming
beck all the way from -Australia,
don't you think you may be miss-
ing out on something good if
you've never been here? Come and
see.
