Masters Bowlers Association
organizes six tournaments
By Ron •Davin
ZURICH - In 1964, a tiny acorn,
called the Master Bowlers Associa-
lion of Ontario was planted. With
careful nurturing over the ensuing
years, this acorn has grown into a
mighty oak tree, branching out in
several diffet directions. '
The Master Bowlers Association
(M.B.A.) established and has main-
tained a professional dress code.
The M.B.A. organized a provin-
cial tour of six tournaments from
London to Ottawa and Sudbury to
Hamilton for Ontario's elite bowl-
ers.
Then the M.B.A. formed a new
concept Teaching Division to help
volunteer Youth Bowling Council
(Y.B.C.) coaches in teaching girls
and boys how to enjoy and excel in
the sport of 5 pin bowling.
From that success the M.B.A. or-
Iganized the Master -Bantam and
Master -Junior tournaments, when
an M.B.A. member bowls with a
Y.B.C. girl of boy as a team. In
1978, the M.B.A. put together the
first ever Technical seminar in Lon-
don, bringing in some of London's
best Y.B.C. coaches and instruc-
tors. It was to be the start of a new
era in the sport of 5 pin bowling as
more and more Y.B.C. volunteers
attended M.B.A. instruction and
coaching seminar all across the
province.
Today every 5 pin centre across
Canada has several fully certified
National Level One coaches teach-
ing in their organized Y.B.C.
leagues. This includes all Bluewater
5 Pin Association centres.
Locally, the Zurich 5 Pin Associ-
ation is providing fully certified
Level One and some Level Two Na-
tional coaches for Town and Coun-
try Lanes Y.B.C. leagues. Two of
these coaches, Patrician Palen and
Ron Dann, coached Town and
Country's girls team and boys team
respectively in the Bluewater Asso-
ciation Y.B.C. Ontario Combo
zone finals Sunday at Meaford.
In this unique format, each team
has one bantam, one junior and
one senior age bowler. The Zurich
girls team, paced by Karrie Con-
sitt's 70 pins over her average,
bantam Shannon Wilcox with 42
pins over . and senior Patti Ann
Dickert:with minus one,:fi,ished,
fourth with 111 pins o:
Bantam Jason Hardy led the Zu-
rich boys team with 83 pins over
his average while Kevin Beierling
had 76 pins over and senior Doug
Willert 25 over as they bowled
181 pins over their team average
to finish fifth in the boys division,
won by Owen Sound with 305
pins over
The Bluewater 5 Pin Associa-
tion, Sunday in its April meeting
at Clinton, appointed Goderich s
Marj Moore, Zurich Association's
Ron Dann, Listowel's Howie Bak-
er and Mount Forest's Ernie Web -
bas the four voting delegates to
June's Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers As-
