Fifth Sunday in Lent celebrated

THAMES ROAD - Reverend
Sheila Macgregor was in charge of
the fifth Sunday in Lent on Sun-
day morning. The seasonal colour
is violet.
Rev. Macgregor read the scrip-
ture lesson John 12: 20-26 and
Luke 13: 18-19.
The congregation sang the chil-
dren's hymn Jesus Friend of Little
Children and Rev. Macgregor
gave the children's message Jesus
Seeds.
The fifth candle in the Lenten
Wreath was blown out, and the
children were asked to remain at
the front of the church while BiII
and Tina Robson renewed their
marriage vows. The were married
10 years ago on March 14.
The choir sang These things 1
know to the tune of Danny Boy ac-
companied by organist Agnes
Bray.

E.T. Loonie Tunes (youth group)
met at Elimville United church
from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
March 21.
The Sunbeams will meet at 9:30
a.m. on Wednesday, April 3 for
Grandparents Day at Thames Road
Church.
Adult Bible Study will take place
at 2 p.m. at the Exeter Villa on Fri-
day, March 22.
A joint service will be held at 8
p.m. on March 29 (Good Friday) at
Thames Road Church.
Easter Sunday - March 31; A
joint service will be held at 8 a.m.
at Elimville Church. A potluck sup-
per and a children's Easter egg hunt
will also take place. An Easter ser-
vice will be held at 10 a.m. in Elim-
ville onMarch 3l and at 11:15 a.m.
at Thames Road on March 31.
Easter lilies may be placed in
sanctuary in memory of a loved
one. Please phone Sharon Passmore
before March 28 if you are placing
a lily.
A bowling night is being planned
for both congregations on Saturday,
April 20 at Zurich Bowling Lanes
from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. A sign up
sheet for those interested in on the
bulletin board at both church. Af-
terward, they will go to the Three
AAA Restaurant.

Dessert euchre planned
CLANDEBOYE - The March
meeting of the Clandeboye Wom-
en's Institute was held at Edie
Worthington's home.
Worthington was also the pro-
gram Citizenship and Legislation
program which contained a great
deal of information about the
N.D.P. government, Premier Bob
Rae's history and many topics such
as facts on immigration, abortion,
women's rights, pay equity and
young offenders.
There was a great deal of discus-
sion on various topics. During the
business, the conveners were asked
to have their reports ready for the
April meeting.
Plans were made for the dessert
euchre to be held at 1 p.m. on April
2 at St. James Church.
Jean Hodgins announced the
Blood Clinic which will take place

dent, opened the afternoon meeting
by welcoming everyone.
The minutes were read and the
treasurer's report was given. Re-
ports were given by conveners of
cards, quilts and an update of the li-
brary by Marion Porter. Marion
Dearing was chairperson of the pro-
gram.
Mildred McGregor, regional
president, spoke on Lent and Dem-
ing spoke on Hope.
Scriptures were read by Doris Sil-
lery and Olive Hicks.
The committee served lunch.
In the Lucan Community Centre
form S p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 4.
Linda Misra of Clandeboye is the
coordinator with the St. Patrick's
Catholic Women's League in assis-
tance.

St. James Euchre
There were seven tables in play
on Tuesday night at the St. James
Church.
Surprisingly, women were in
short supply at the tourney.
Prize winners were as follows; la-
dies high score - Harry Noels;
men's high score - Jack Dickens;
lone hands - Marilyn Dixon and Ed
Armstrong; low score - Roy Cun-
ningham and Neil McRann.
The next euchre party will take
place on March 26.

was held Sunday afternoon at 208
Victoria street to honour John and
Rosemary Stewart on their recent
retirement as postmasters of the
Crediton Post Office.
The youth group of Crediton
United Church will be sponsoring a
pancake breakfast on Easter Sun-
day morning at 8:30 a.m. prior to
the regular Sunday service which
will include Communion and a bap-
tismal service.
A special Good Friday service is
also planned for Friday. March 29
at 10 a.m. In his sermon Sunday
morning, Rev. Ed Lakstnanis point-
ed out that Good Friday is the last
of the true religious holidays.
This week, the junior choir will
rehearse after school tonight,
Wednesday and senior choir prac-
tice will follow at 8 p.m.
In hospital from the Crediton area
are Gordon Moriock and Leila
Finkbeiner at South 1-luron in Exet-
er.
Don't forget the hall board ham
supper at the Stephen township
community hall in Crediton tomor-
row night, Thursday from 5 to 7:30
p.m.
Crediton Minor Ball registration
is slated for Saturday, March 23
from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Two
coaches are needed to fill the last
two positions.
4-11 Conservation Club Organiza-
tional Meeting will be held Mon-
day, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Stephen Township Community
Centre.

VARNA - Varna has some croki-
nole players. Several from the area
participated in the Springbreak
Crokinole Tournament held in the
Huron County Museum in Gode-
rich last weed;;

their divisions the day of their tour-
nament. The Divisional Playoffs
were Saturday night to determine
who was to win first prize, which
meant these three 'had to playoff
with the three opponents in their di-
vision that were second, third and
fourth place winncrs in the tourna-
ment.
Jason came in first in his division
receiving a crokinole board. Ivan
came in second in his division re-
ceiving a Family History Book and
Raymond came in third receiving a
crokinole Book. These winners also
receive a free family membership
for a year to the Huron County Mu-
seum. Murray Gaunt was present to
referee the playoffs. Warden Jim
Robinson was also there to bring
greetings and say a few words from
the County.
Heather Laurie's Remembrance
Day Essay is really travelling and
doing remarkably well. Heather's
essay had won locally in the Le-
gion, The Regional District and

EXETER - Ralph Topp played a
medley of Irish tunes and hymns in-
cluding I feel the winds of God dur-
ing the organ prelude on St. Pat-
rick's Day; the fifth Sunday of
Lent.
Bev Robinson led in worship and
Joan Kammerer read scripture. Su-
zanne Kress accompanied the sen-
ior choir on the flute as they sang
The Kin8dom of the Lord.
A remmder that this coming Sun-
day is Palm Sunday and Confirma-
tion and the Evening with the Haw-
leys celebration will begin at 7:30
p.m.

The Lodge organized the Heart
Campaign for the Central Stanley
Area except Varna arid had ' total
donations of $818. A thank you to
all canvassers and donors for this
worthwhile campaign. Mary Ches-
sell reports the village of Varna
was up $50 from last year.
