GRAND BEND - Teamwork and
an exciting spirit of cooperation has
enabled several groups to organize a
new program for teaching parenting
skills in Huron County.
Beginning on April 8, S.T.E.P.
(Systematic Training for Effective
Parenting) will be taught at the
Women Today House in Clinton.
The sessions will be hosted on
Monday evenings from 7:30 p.m.
to 9:30 p.m. They will provide a
certificate with no fee for training.
The service is supported by Hu-
ron -Perth Centre for Children and
Youth, the Public Health Unit,
Childreach, Private Home Day Care
and teachers to jointly sponsor this
exciting pilot project.
Six more sessions would be
taught in the fall completing the
course linking trainees to cooperate
with service clubs in their area.
If these trained people can return
to their communities to teach oth-
ers with the continued support of
the sponsoring agencies, there could
be a positive ripple effect of good
parenting in Huron County, This is
a valuable opportunity to contribute
to your community. Call 482-
9706.
Women today news
The Quarterly meeting of Women
Today will be held on Wednesday,
March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wom-
en Today House. It will feature the
premiere video viewing of the Na-
tional Film Board's "Goddess Re-
membered", part I in the Women In
Spirituality" Series. Part II, "The
Burning Times" will be shown at a
later date. Bring your friend or part-
ner, and a beverage - we supply the
popcorn. Discussion depends on
everyone - come and explore. See if
there is hope for saving our planet
from its current environmental cri-
sis.
A Midwifery Panel encompassing
both midwives and consumers, will
be conducted on Thursday March 7
at 8 p.m. in the Stratford Town
Hall. •
Looking for something special to
do with your youngsters during
March break? How about a "Puppet
Making Workshop" on Wednesday,
March 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at
Women Today House/ Pauli Som-
mer will teach children (over six
r years) to make soft puppets out of
scraps - only 10 can be accommo-
dated at once, so please R.S.V.P. at
482-9706 by March 11.
The Women Today library is !
also groV•Ing. In addition td a'cabm
prehensive collection of feminist
ti literature and information about
y women's issues, the Huron Re-
source Library is expanding. This
recent addition to Women today of-
fers a growing body of information
about mental and physical handi-
capped and services, including top-
ics of education and integration,
residential concerns, job training,
aging, recreation and leisure activi-
ties and advocacy issues. Recent
fund raising has been quite success-
ful so a new order for additional
books, magazines, periodicals and
VCR tapes can be sent out in late
March. By spring, the Women To-
day library will be waiting for your
inquiries, bigger and better
equipped than ever, to serve the
people of Huron County.
Elbow ball - While it looks as though the ball was balancing on this
boy's elbow, he was really caught up in a heated game of 'guard the
pin.' There were 10 teams and 101 boys and leaders at the Chris-
tian Service Brigade Sports Day on Saturday at the South Huron Dis-
trict High School in Exeter. The Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle host-
ed
osted the event.
