Members grin and bear it
KIPPEN - To relieve the mon-
otony of the winter months, Kip -
pen East held a Teddy Bear's pic-
nic at their February meeting.
The meeting was held at Grace
Drummond's home. Ten mem-
bers and one guest - Ruby Alder -
dice of Meaford, and 11 bears
were present.
What an assortment of bears!
Big bears, little bears, fat bears,
skinny bears, brown bears, pink
bears, bears of every hue - yel-
low, green and blue.
Helen MacLean was in charge
of the fun night. She explained
the history of the picture with the
two boys in overalls entitled Been
farming long?
Phyllis Parsons conducted a
contest won by Grace Drum-
mond, prizes for the bears were
deternuned by drawing numbers
with the Bravest Teddy Bear
award going to Audrey Coleman's
bear. The most enthusiastic bear
was Margaret's, and
Phyllis Parsons hhappiest
bear. The Most Honest bear
award went to Marry Broadoot" s
fuzzy friend
Rena Caldwell guessed the
closest as to bow many cinnamon
hearts were is agy bear
Caldwell also obtained die
high-
est scare in the crokinoie game.
Courtesy remarks were given
by Mona Alderdico.and the group
declared the evening beery suc-
cessful.
Remember lo give something
away daily - a smile, a bug, a
compliment - a note of encour-
agement; we will all feel better
for it.
Thinking Day service held
THAMES ROAD - Reverend
Sheila Macgregor conducted the
Thinking Day Service (part of
Scout/Guide Week) last Sunday
morning. The seasonal colour is vi-
olet.
The service commenced with the
songs Holy, Holy, Holy and the na-
tional anthem.
Laura and Maggie Miller carried
flags and Erin and Lori Richardson
proceeded up the aisle. Laura and
Maggie were dressed in their
Brownie uniforms and Lori as
dressed in her Girl Guide uniform,
and Erin in her Pathfinder outfit.
The choir and congregation sang
On the Wins of a Dove accompa-
nied by pianist Agnes Bray.
Erin Richardson read the Scrip-
ture Lesson numbers 13: 1-3, 17-
20, 25-33, and Lori Richardson
read Acts 2: 14-10.
Reverend Macgregor read from
Numbers 14: 16-19, and she read
Genesis 15 vs. 5 which was her
text.
Her sermon was entitled Grass-
hoppers, Tinkerers and Chopsticks.
Coming events
A Sunday School teachers meet -
in will be held at the manse for
Elunville and Thames Road
Churches at 8 p.m. on Wednesday,
February 27.
Bible study group will be held at
the Exeter Villa at 2 p.m. on Thurs-
day, February 28. The Lord's
Prayer will be the topic.
E.T. Loonie Tunes (youth group)
will meet on February 28. Please
exit the bus at the high school to
meet leaders Rev. Macgregor, Kar-
en Etherington and Shirley Ker-
slake in the parking lot to go to the
Exeter Villa.
The group will go to Thames
Road Church for pizza and parents
can pick up their children at 6:30
p.m. Please bring S2 to cover the
meal.
The World Day of Prayer Service
will be held at the Christian Re-
. formed Church at 2 p.m. on Friday,
March 1.
A time of fellowship will be held
next Sunday courtesy of Rick and
Judith Parker, and Don and Janie
Richardson.
The monthly meeting of the
U.C.W. will be held in the church
basement at 8 p.m. on Monday,
March 4.
The Sunbeams will meet in the
Thames Road Church at 9:30 a.m.
on Wednesday, March 6.
From the Pastoral Care and Over-
sight Committee of Huron -Perth
Presbytery to the Thames Road and
Elimville Pastoral Charge. They
will meet with Rev. Macgregor and
her husband Richard at the manse
at 7 p.m. on March 6.
The committee would like to hold
a meeting with the. Official Board
and any other interested individuals
at8p.m.
A bowling night is being planned
for both congregations on April
13. A sign up sheet for those inter-
ested is on the bulletin board at'
both churches.

SAINTSBURY - The sincere
sympathy from the St. Patrick's par-
ish is extended to the wife and fam-
ily of the late Harold Davis. Mr Da-
vis' funeral service was held last
Saturday at St. Paul's Anglican
Church in Kirkton.
Parish Bible Study will be held at.
Jean Warner's residence in Lucan at
1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February
27.
House church was held at 8:30
a.m. at the Davis' residence last
Thursday with the service of Holy
Communion.
Scott Jefferies read the lessons
and Dave Hughesman read the peo-
ple's prayers.
Reverend Beverley Anne Wheel-
er told the story of The Rabbi and
the Soapmaker and stressed that
Faith like soap, is not effective un-
less used. Margaret Carroll was the
lay assistant.
House Church will take place at
the Davis' residence again next
Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Bob MacGil-
livray will read Exodus 20: 1-17, 1
Corinthians 1: 22-25; Responsive
reading psalm 19: 7-14. Gospel
John 2: 13-22. Aim: Failing to
