Hawks lose protested game
LUCAN - The Exeter Hawks were without the services of coach
Jack Naim and winger Scott Taylor Friday during their 4-2 loss to
the Irish in Lucan.
Both were suspended by the league after the Hawks lost a protest-
ed game a week earlier against the Tavistock Braves. The Hawks
wilt have two points stricken from their record because of the
protest.
Taylor was involved in a second fight during the same stoppage of
play December 8 against the Mitchell Hawks which calls for an au-
tomatic one -game suspension. However Naim said it was never told
to him' that Taylor was the third man in and let him play against Lu -
can December 13 and against Tavistock December 15.
Tavistock protested to the league that the Hawks were using an il-
legal player and won, despite being trounced by the Hawks that
night 12-2.
"It didn't say on the game sheet that he was in a second fight dur-
ing the same stoppage in play," said Nairn.
In addition to losing two points from their record, the Hawks were
also fined S 100.
Taylor will sit out a total of four games, while Nairn will be back
behind the bench Friday night when the Hawks take on the Irish Fri-
day night at 8:30 at the SHRC.
The Hawks had their game Tuesday in Mitchell postponed be-
cakuse of the snowy weather. It will be made up at a later date.
Mohawks hit break
leading by four points
EXETER - The Exeter Mohawks
hit the Christmas break leading the
Southern Senior A hockey League
with a four -point lead over second -
place Aylmer l lornets.
The Mohawks kept ahead of
Aylmer by winning both starts last
week. They blanked the Ingersoll
13's 5-0 at the South Huron Rec
Centre last Tuesday and sunk the
Dorchester Dolphins 7-2,. in Dor-
chester, Friday.
Mohawk goalie Bill Dark, who .
recorded the shutout against Inger-
soll, didn't have a lot to do, but was
sharp when called upon.
"I'll take a shutout anytime I can
get one. It's been almost two years
since my last one," said Dark.
The Mohawks outshot the B's 62-
18 in the game, but they had a
tough time getting anything past
B's goalie Mike McMillen all night
and especially in the first period
when they fired 20 at the B's net -
minder but found themselves in a
scoreless tic at the end of one peri-
od.
McMillen also stopped 20 shots
in the second period, but Exeter fi-
nally found success by hitting the
net three times.

his first of two in the game, from
Barry Baynham and Quincy Wilk-
cr, at 4:14, Dave Randerson scored
a power -play goal from Jcff War-

It also loo!scd like a Mohawk
alumni game with three former Mo-
hawks, John Rowlands, Rob Mack-
ie and Scott Eccles in the lineup for
the B's. Backup B's goalie Jack Ni-

camp earlier this season but was
subsequently cut.

periods in this game but scored the

to put the game away and found the
easy victory.

It was the second -straight game
on the road in Dorchester in two
weeks but the Mohawks had an eas-
ier time of it this time. Last week,
they were forced to overtime by the
Dolphins before finally taking the
game.
After Dorchester's Rob Warry
opened the scoring early in the
game, Snyder got Exeter on the
board at 2:05 of the first, from Ran-
derson and Wilkcr.
Exeter took the lead for good
four minutes later on Dale Gib-
bon's tally from Carr and Les Arts,
who played one of his finest game
of the year„picking up -three assists.
It stayed that way until late in the
second frame when Scherer clicked
from Jeff Shipley with 3:18 left in
the second to make it a 3-1 contest.
Wilkcr also found the mark from
Synder with less than two minutes
to play in the second, but the Dol-
phins also got one behind Mohawk
backstop Rick Pikul with just over
a minute left in the second.
The Mohawks outshot the Dol-
phins 18-9 in the final period and
also found the mark three times to
break the game open.
Snyder got his second of the con-
{est from Randy Bailey at 1:12,

and Arts at 9:54 and Shipley com-
pleted the scoring with a power-
play tally from Arts and Bailey,
