EXETER - The South Huron
Rec Centre Board was feeling in a
Christmassy mood deciding to give
a break on the cost of using the fa-
cilities to a couple of charitable or-
ganizations for next year.
At their regular meeting last
Wednesday night, the board decid-
ed to charge the Precious Blood
fund-raising committee only $1,500
for use of the enure facilities for
the weekend, July 5-7 1990.
If they were charged individually
for each item the total would be
well in excess of $2,000, but the
board felt it would give them a
break because of the special cir-
cumstances surrounding the event
and because they are using every-
thing for the entire three-day peri-
od.
Precious Blood members are try-
ing to raise funds to build a new
church in Exeter for which they
have also had other various fund-
raising activities to help with the
costs.
The board also decided to give a
special price to a group that is orga-
nizing a benefit to help pay the
medical bills of Harvey Hodgins.
Hodgins lost part of his right leg in
a farming accident in the summer.
This event will include use of the
hall, bar and kitchen, which would
normally total over $500 and the
board decided to give it to them at a
cost of only $350 because it is non-
profit.
Facilities Committee
The Facilities Committee met
December 5 and discussed a num-
ber of topics, which were also
brought to the Rec Board's atten-
tion.
Jim Chapman, chairman of the
Facilities Committee, discussed the
needs for the Home and Garden
Show with members of the Opti-
mist Club and were able to set up a
schedule for the 1990 show. April
4-8 has been set aside for the prese-
nation.
The floor installation (laying of
the boards over the ice surface) will
start late Wednesday, April 4, and
marking of the display area will be
done by Optimist members imme-
diately after that.
Show participants can set up their
displays all day Thursday, and ear-
ly on Friday. They show will start
Friday night and run to Sunday. Ex-
hibit removal will take place after
the show and then the floor will be
removed to allow any hockey
teams alive in playoffs use the ice
again Monday.
The board and the Optimists had
been negotiating towards the rental
price of the floor covering to put
over the ice show in case any teams
are still playing in playoffs they can
use the Rec Centre once the show
is over. In past years, the Rec Cen-
tre staff removed the ice from the
arena once it was time for the
Home Show to begin and any ice
users had to be moved to other ve-
nues. With the floor covering, the
show can proceed without throwing
any hockey groups out.
However, Mike Soldan, who is a
board member and trainer for the
Exeter Mohawks' said, the team
will be forced to play the third
round of the Hardy Cup playdowns
gainst the Quebec winner some-
where other than the Rec Centre,
because the OHA had already set
dates for the Hardy Cup round the
same weekend as the Home and
Garden Show. The Mohawks must
win the first two rounds before that
will be a problem.
It was determined to be highly
unlikely that a grant would be
available for a heated viewing arca
in the arena and if one was to be
built it would have to come totally
from private funds.
Concrete bumpers have been or-
dered to be placed around the park=
ing lot, to protect the iecent renova-
►ions to the building from cars in i
the lot that might get a little too
close, but the snow banks are doing
the sameob right now. Final in-
spection should be done this week
on the renovations.

All of -a sudden. down came a jou .

Suddenly Ryan woke up and

VALVE SAFE WORKS
Lead replacement additives work because they form deposits on the valves.
Older engine technology relied on these deposits to lubricate the valve seats.
With the introduction of catalytic converters requiring unleaded gasoline,
cylinder head designs were changed to compensate for the Toss of valve seat
lubrication.
