Activities around The Bend
By Roberta Walker
GRAND BEND - Halloween is
over for another year, and we hope
that none of the little ghosts and
goblins got into trouble by overdos-
ing on those sweet treats, or trip-
ping over their costumes in the
dark.
Already the smiles on the jack -o -
lanterns are starting to sag in the
warm sun, but cooler temperatures
will keep them smiling for a while
yet.
A number of Grand Bend Golden
Agers met for games and fun at the
Sauble Court Lounge last Thursday
afternoon. They had such a good
time they may do it again - no
meeting, just a social event.
Anyone interested in taking a bus
trip on December 19 to see the
Christmas lights of Sarnia, please
call 238-2948.
The Grand Bend Women's Insti-
tute will be meeting on November
9 at 1:30 p.m. in the United Church
classrooms. The guest speaker will
be Hilda Cornell of Denfield,
speaking about Postal Services.
The date was changed because of
the Annual Turkey Supper at the
United Church on Wednesday, No-
vember 8. Don't forget to buy tick-
ets for a great church supper.
Lioness Club
The Grand Bend Lioness Club
held their October meeting at Sand-
ers Restaurant with members all
dressed for Halloween. There were
four guests, Lioness from Port
Stanley. The speaker for the eve-
ning was Mr. Rupert Inch, the Liai-
son Officer for District A-1, who
commended the club for their
record of community service in the
Grand Bend area.
The Lioness made a donation to
the new Grand Bend Pathfinders
Unit. The club is taking orders now
for Christmas cheese, and orders
should be in by the next meeting,
November 23, at Sanders Restau-
rant. If you want to order some
cheese just ask any Lioness mem-
ber.
The November meeting will be a
Gold Party with proceeds donated
to the Diabetes Association.

moting evangelization in the Lon-
don Diocese was guest speaker for
the afternoon.
Nearly 200 CWL members from
across the Huron -Perth Deanery at-
tended the meeting, along with 12
spiritual directors, who con-
celebrated a Mass for the assembly.
The morning workshops focused
on improving communication with-
in the League, and developing a
better understanding of its organi-
zation.
In Father Hardy's address on ev-
angelization, he.called for all CWL
councils to reach out to Catholics
everywhere whether in Church or
lapsed Catholics, to make our
churches places of real welcome.
Only 1/3 of Canadians today are
practicing Christians, of whatever
denomination. The vast majority
are lapsed Christians, members of
Eastern religions and the un-
churched, in today's society.
Bible Study
Bible study was held in Grand
Bend last Tuesday morning at the
Sauble Court Lounge with 14 la-
dies present. They began Part 3
"Women Who Prayed" from the
book "Women Who Believed
God". They studied the story of
Hannah, from the Book of Samuel:
1-28. Hannah was childless and
prayed to God out of a broken
heart, asking Him for a son. She
was very specific in her prayer, but
also persistent and unselfish. She
promised to give her boy back to
the Lord, to serve Him in the Tab-
ernacle. Doris Peebles was the dis-
cussion leader, who closed with
prayer remembering the sick and
shut-ins. •
