DASHWOOD - The Dashwood
Friedsburg Committee wishes to
thank all the volunteers, communi-
ty and members for another suc-
cessful event.
Saturday provided a great variety
of activities for all ages. The bal-
loon lift off under the direction of
Don and Jean Weigand was a most
up lifting success.
The committee also appreciated
the effort of the community regard-
ing their participation in the parade
theme, a fact which has continued
to make Dashwood's parade a great
success. Theme this year "If I had
three wishes".
A list of winners for the various
categories are: Theme Award -
Dave Rader Construction and Bar-
bara Shops Shirts.
Craftman: Merners Meats and
Community Spirit; The Zurich
Has Beans.
Horscdrawn, Carl Tyler, Horse
Cheyenne - Adam Smith, horse -
Rascal Horse and Rider - Danny
Gielnik; Cowboy - Bob Frisco.
Small vehicles - Cam Sweiger,
Allison and Luke Heyward and
their goat. Bicycles - Shannon
Sweiger; Hayter Turkey; Jamie
Becker and Youngest Participant
was Ken Nicolson on the Barbara
Shop float• as an ice cream cone.
Novelty - three lotto tickets were
given as prizes - Jenny and Darryl
Rompfh and Kelly Hoffman.
Arm Wrestling .organized by
John and Joe Becker had 20 entries.
All participants gave their best.
Winners up to 140 lbs. Chad Ben-
newies; 141-160 - Terry Dorssers;
161-180 - Greg Lovie; 181-200 -
Ron Coleman; 201 and over -
Scott French. Women's Class -
Tanya Forrester.
The Ontario Horseshoe Associa-
tion under the leadership of Ernie
Harburn and Elgin Kipfer provided
a new activity at Friedsburg.
The association was most pleased
as they had more entries than they
had anticipated. The members are
looking forward to a bigger compe-
tition in 1990 and perhaps make it
an annual event. Time permitting
the World Class Competitors will
compete - something to look for-
ward to next year.
Winners were won as partners -
Alonzo Harburn and Eugene Kuntz;
George Caughlin, London and La-
verne Hoegy (McKillop Twp.),
Jack Brintnell and Brian Sanders,
Exeter. Harold Pridham, Staffa and
David Parks, Goderich.
Thanks to the following who do-
nated prizes to the Horseshoe Com-
petition: Beckers Farm Equipment;
Brian's Motors, Merners Meats,
Hayters Turkey Farms; Leon's Buy
and Sell; and Jerry MacLeans.
The jigsaw puzzle contest compe-
tition was hot and heavy. Brandon
Palmer, Jennifer Romphf and Andy
Palmer were winners respectively. -
Adult section, Sheila Miller, Li-
ette Clarke, and Dody Sweitzer won
respectively.
Amy Relouw was named. Miss
Friedsburg 1989. Congratulations
to all participants as they represent-
ed their sponsors with real class.
Thanks to the,,Rhime Danube
Club for providing a tremendous
variety of dancing in the pavilion.
All members expressed they thor-
oughly enjoyed themselves and
hoped to return next year.
The Froshin Dancers provided a
dazzling array of performances for
the afternoon crowd.
Special thanks to Erich and Kath -
re Freiter for providing refreshments
for members of the Leamington
Club upon their arrival in Dash-
wood Saturday.
Plans well be announced for next
year's F. i?.dsburg Days. Keep .in
mind that the committee is prepar-
ing to celebrate the 20 anniversity
of Friedsburg Days in 1991.
