The local team had to win three games before they met the Fun Seekers in the A final which they won 11-9. Times -Advocate, July 26, 1989 Page 21 Grand Bend Squirts continuerto roll GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend Squirts continue to roll along in Lucan and District Minor Soccer League play. Last Thursday night they de- stroyed Coldstream by a 7-0 count. Scan Maguire and Jeremy Arnold each connected for a pair of goals, while singles went to Blake Smith, Ben Fluter and Peter Mennen. Mike :'kinner and Arnold each played ggc 1 and shared the shutout. The Grind Bend Squirts will play host to E 'eter 4 Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Grand Bend Atoms also played Coldstream last Monday night, July 17 and picked up a 3-0 shutout win. Leslie Stefenco scored twice for the winners, while Brian 1 eUricx :ontributed the single goal. They weren't as fortunate Wednes- day night when they were on the re- ceiving cnd of the shutout, losing 5-0 to Exeter 1. Grand Bcnd played host to Lucan 2 Monday night. The Mosquitos were home to Coldstream last Wednesday night but took a 3-2 decision on the chin. Simon Dcsiardines had both markers for Grand Bend in that ;ame. Wedne . lay night the Mosquitos are playing at home against St. Co- lumban. Last Tuesday the Pee Wees dropped an 8-1 decision at the hands of Exeter, with Mark Mollard get- ting the only Grand Bend goal. Grand Bend had better luck how- ever on July 11, when they beat Nairn 9-5 in Nairn. Carrie Brooks and Steve Vanden- berk each scored once for Grand Bend. Grand Bend played in St. Colum - ban and will play host to Exeter next Monday night, July 31. Ball day Sunday LIEURY - The Lieury Minor Baseball Association will be holding their annual minor ball day on Sunday at the Lieury Park. The highlight of the day will be Sunday night when the Exct- cr Royals of the South Pcrth Men's Fastball League, will take on a South West League Selects All Star team at 7:50 p.m. The Lieury Pee Wee will take on Kirkton at 10:35 that day and the Bantam Boys will take on Crediton at 12:10. The Bantams girls will also take on Crediton later that day. Other games will take place all day. Exeter's Andrea Urlin made a nice catch of a fly ball a second base when Grand Bend had the bases loaded, which put an cnd to a rally that might have tied the game. Stephanie Pearson hit a home run, for Dave Moore Fuels. and Candace Miller played well at catcher. Christie McInnes was the start- ing pitcher for Exeter and got some relief hell from Christine Morgan. Lisa Turnbull and Tracy Turnbull both played well for Grand Bend, each scored two runs. The win improved Exeter's over- all league record to 6-2 on the sea- son, while Grand Bend's record drops to 3-6.
