LUCAN - The Exeter Junior Co-

Keller was the leader offensively
for Exeter, going three for four

wild pitch and scored on another
single by Keller.
Exeter scored an insurance run in
the top of the eighth.
Lucan picked up their final run in
the bottom of the eighth to make it
a close final.
Scott Russell pitched seven in-
nings to pick up the win for Exeter
but needed some relief help from
Marty Merner, who pitched tlfb fi-
nal two innings and earned the
save.
Hyde went the distance on the
mound for Lucan and struck out 13
batters but took the tough loss.

8-5 in the second. Then Grand Bend
scored eight runs in the third in-

"We have been in touch with the
Senior A league and I think a ma-
jority of the teams would like Exet-
er 13 join the league, but before we
do anything we have to have all the
players committed to playing Sen-
ior A," Rowe explained.
He said the biggest problem faced
in making the jump is that most
teams in the Senior A loop play
their home game during the week,
which means some players that
work days would have to get off
work early to attend some games
and they would get home even later
after the game because of the in-
creased distance in travel in some
cases.
The situation was also made more
desirable to make the jump to Sen-
ior A when it was learned that the
Tavistock Royals, the closest trip
by bus last year for the Mohawks,
folded and will be made up in the
schedule by a new team from Camp
Borden, which would then be the
longest trip in the Senior B league
for the Mohawks.
"It really has its pros and cons. I
mean we are faced with some longer
road trips during the week but it
would be good for our fans to see.
some new faces around our rink, and
I am quite sure we would be very
competitive in Senior A," said
Rowe.
To make it official, the new
league would vote on accepting Ex-
eter next season, which could take
place at a meeting of all Senior
leagues next week .
Rowe said a final decision would
not happen until the Mohawks have
their annual general meeting August
24.
Morgan, picked up an 18-7 hard-
fought win over Usborne in a sev-
en -inning game played last Monday
night in Grand Bend.
With the bases loaded and Us -
borne threatening, Grand Bend's
Jake Morgan threw home to catcher
Mike Stanlake for the force out to
end the inning.
Stanlake was also, outstanding at
the plate for Grand Bend. He had
two hits in two trips and a sacrifice,
good for three rbi's, and in the field
he had one put out at second base,
two and third and one at home.
Trent Stellingwerff homered and
Andrew Sharen went three for three
with a pair of rbi's.
For Usborne, Shawn Simpson
and Steve Coward played outstand-
ing games, each going three for
four at the plate, and Dennis Gower
belted two doubles in four trips and
tallied two runs batted in.
Jason Woodley picked up the win
on the mound for Grand Bend de-
spite only going one-third of an in-
ning, as coach Morgan platoons
four pitchers, Ryan Taylor, Stet-
lingwerff, Jeremy Wilde and Wood-
ley.
The team's record .now stands at
6-3-1.
Head first - Todd Laporte of the Exeter Junior Co-ops dives head first into second base but is tagged
out by Lucan second baseman Dan Jenken, when those teams met in Lucan Sunday afternoon. Exet-
er doubled up on Lucan 4-2 to win the game. -
