Revington new Mohawk coach
EXETER - The Exeter Mohawks,
the 1988-89 provincial Senior B
hockey champions, officially named
former Lucan Irish coach Dave Rev-
ington as their coach for the up-
coming season.
Reving'fm will take Bob Rowe's -
place bel ind the bench after Rowe
had repl.ced Gord Brooks in mid
season last year.- Rowe will return
to managing the hockey club.
Revington, who guided the Irish
to a 30-6 record and first place over-
all in the Western Junior D hockey
league last year, said he felt he had
been in Junior too long and wanted
a change.
"I felt I had been going long
enough in Lucan and I had made my
feelings known that I had wanted
out sometime soon. I talked to
them, (the Mohawks executive) and
told them I was interested in the job
and I guess they wanted me," said
Revington.
Revington took the Irish to the
provincial finals last seaso only
to be swept by the Lambeth ) cers
in four games.
"We put that team together with
the intentions of going to the finals
and I really thought we could win it
but regardless I am leaving the Irish
on good terms," said Revington.
Revington admitted he hasn't giv-
en the hockey•season much thought
yet but is looking forward to mak-
ing the jump in the calibre of hock-
ey.
"I am looking forward to it. I
think it will be quite a transition
but I don't think I will be doing
anything differently in my style of
coaching," he said.
He also admitted he is not worried
about coaching some players on
the Mohawks that are older than he
is..
"Itis not going to -be a issue with
me and I don't think it will be a
problem with them either".
Revington is already familiar with
quite a -few players on the current
team.
"I coached Wayne Urbshott, Jeff
Shipley and Ron Goodhand and Bill
Glover and Kris Bedard and Dale
Timmermans on All-Star teams and
I have played with Barry Baynham
so I think quite a few players al-
ready know me. I think it will take
• a couple of months for the players
to g; familiar with my system and
for x'l of us. to get familiar with
each other," said Revington.
Rowe said, ''1 think it will be a
challenge for Rev, but I think he is
quite capable of doing the job".
The Mohawks may also be mak-
ing the jump to Senior A hockey
next season.
After their annual golf tourna-
ment, which was held at Bayview
Golf Club near St. Joseph Saturday,
a majority of the players that were
present voted to make the jump to
Senior A, to play in the Senior A
league against teams from Aylmer,
Dorchester, Dunnville and Smith-
ville and Ingersoll.
A number of things must happen
before that jump can become offi-
cial however.
The first and most important ac-
cording to Rowe is the executive
must have the commitment from
the players.
