Get reply on resolution of
telephone book recycling
EXETER - As the result of their
support of a city of Guelph resolu-
tion regarding the possible recy-
cling of telephone books, council
has received a letter from the Cana-
dian Radio -television Telecommu-
nications Commission.
Bell Canada has indicated it is cer-
tainly interested in the welfare of
the environment and has co-
operated in the past in efforts to re-
cycle outdated directories.
In the event that sufficient num-
ber of directories can be collected,
the low grade newsprint used in the
directories, and the amount of ink
required in the printing process,
would result in an even lower grade
by-product.
Also, confronting the company is
the costly and labour-intensive job
of removing the spines and covers
of the directories before recycling
can begin.
Bell has assured the Commission
that it is continually researching-
methods
esearchingmethods to try to find solutions to
the problems which have confronted
the company in its efforts, and is
interested in finding a practical and
workable system for the collection
and recycling of directories.
