KIRKTON - Meeting 3 of Kirk -
ton "Let's Landscape" was held
again at the home of Gertrude Wil-
lis on June 26. We started off the
meeting with the roll call and the
minutes.
Anna Szabo introduced our guest
speaker from the Centralia College,
Bruce Brolley. He came to talk to
us about pruning mainly.
Mr. Brolley talked about a lot of
things like fertilizer (type), insects
and diseases. We got to look at
pruning tools while he talked about
pruning trees. Then, we all went
around Mrs. Willis' yard and did
some pruning.
Bruce got volunteers to snip and
cut Mrs. Willis' flowers, shrubs
and trees.
We all learned some handy tips
for when we go out to prune. Mrs.
Willis had a delicious snack waitim
for us and the meeting was ad-
journed.

GRAND BEND - Father Vincent
Van Zuphthen was guest celebrant
at all Masses this weekend. The
pastor, Father Paul Beck, will be
returning from his vacation on Fri-
day. John Bannon was reader at the
11 a.m.,Mass, joined by his wife
as Eucharistic Ministers during
Communion. Roberta Walker was
cantor, and Choir Directress Do-
lores Tighe led the choir in "Come
With Me Into the Fields" and
"Fairest Lord Jesus" at Commun-
ion.
In his sermon, Father Van
Zuphthen Iked about evangeliza-
tion. It used to be called converting
the pagans, and mission work, but
today the pope is calling for a
world-wide re -evangelization of the
Catholic world.
Many thanks to the members of
the Catholic Women's League for
their contributions, helping the
bake sale to be so successful (over
S460.00). -
United Church
There was a very good attendance
at the second outdoor service at the
Grand Bend United Church. Special
music was provided by Bob David-
son of Windsor, as he sang "Lord
of My Heart" and "Peace I Leave
With You." Bob is married to a
Grand Bend native , Lois Green.
Next week's special music will be
by soloist Roberta Walker.
Pastor Colin Stover titled his
sermon "A Swell God or a Swelled
Head?" Scripture passages were read
from the fifth chapter of Galatians
and chapter 10 of Luke. Stover told
a true story of two men, each
working for large companies..One
man had it all, prestige, travel,
high salary - a swelled head. The
other man had a modest salary,
simpler lifestyle, and an annual let-
ter of support and appreciation
from his boss. We all labor at vari-
ous vocations, but we have to get
our priorities straight with God.
Many thanks to the Tender Spot
and Colonial Hotel for offers of
parking space to those attending
United Church services on Sunday
morning.
