Nairn beats Squirts
EXETER - In Exeter soccer
squirt action, Exeter One hosted a
league game against Nairn Two but
were defeated 2-0.
Strong defence by the Exeter
team in the first half of play, kept
• Nairn scoreless. Stong offensive
play by Craig and David Overholt,
Chris Frayne and Andy Filcher in
the last quarter of play did not pro-
duce any goals.
Exeter Two travelled to Nairn
where they defeated their opponents
with no difficulty 7-0.
Chad and Jason Monteith, Jason
Miles and Kim McLean caused an
offensive explosion as Chad Mo-
ncith scored six goals and Miles
picked up the last one.
Exeter Three met Coldstream last
week and played to a 1-1 tic.
Casey O'Brien was Exeter's lone
goal scorer while Julie Godbolt,and
Erin Robilliard also played excep-
tionally well.
In Exctcr Atom soccer this week,
Exeter Two hosted Grand Bend and
claimed a 2-1 victory..
B ,:ndan Kraftcheck scored with
only minutes left in the game to
give Exeter the win. Luke Sims
scored Exeter's other goal.
Also playing well were Bic
Groot, Lucas Forrest and Jeremy
VanEsbrock.
The Exctcr Mosquito team trav-
elled to Coldstream and returned
horse with a 3-4 victory for their ef-
forts.
After falling behind in the first
half of play, the Mosquitos put
forth an outstanding effort to come-
back and take the win.
Matt Glavin led the team with
three goals while Billy Kline added
one.
In under 18 action, the boys
played a stong game taking an easy
6-1 victory over St. Columban.
Chris Eccles andson McFalls
played exceptional)well as they
each picked up a goal. Other goal
scorers were Jamie Wulterkens, Dan
McCarter, Brett Rideout and Peter
McAllister..
Girls beat Hensall
HENSALL - Excellent hitting
by Lisa Jennison and a great over-
all team effort gave the Grand Bend
Atom Girls' softball team a slight
29 - 26 victory over the Hensall
• Atom Girls' team last Wednesday.
Grand Bend fell behind 16-14 in
the second inning but allowed only
three runs in the third while scoring
seven themselves to take a narrow
21 -19 lead. The girls then out-
scored Hensall 8-7 in the final in-
ning to come out on top of the 29-
26 final.
Jennison, the games winning
pitcher, turned in a grand slam
homcrun and two bases loaded dou-
bles to go three for three. 5 c also
batted in seven runs. .
Carrie Illman turned in her first
homcrun of the season and scored
three times while Laura Sandwith
batted in three runs with a bases
loaded double.
Terri -Lyn Sheppard, Emily Mill -
ler, Michelle Smits; Mandy Smith
and Erin Jennison each scored three
runs a piece as well.
This win now advances the
Grand Bend team's record to 3 and
6.
• The Atoms met Centralia last'
night (Tuesday) for a league game.
The Grand Bcnd Atom Boys'
softball team suffered their first loss
of the season last Monday when
they travelled to Hibbert for a regu-
alr season league game.
Coach, Chris Morgan, felt the
12-8 loss was due to " a long Week-
end of fun and sun".
However, the second inning of
the game saw Brian Ducharme, Jer-
emy Pickering and Chris Reaburn
all making important plays.
On Thursday, the boys played up
to their potential and defeated Us -
borne 10-4.
Reaburn played well again mak-
ing two great outs on second base
and rookie, Jared Brown, hit very
well with two doubles.
Bryce Kadlecik continues to play
well as back catcher as is Picker-
ing.
The boys meet tomorrow (Thurs-
day) at home at 7:00 pm.
Winning putt - The team of Dave Holtzman, Larry Johns, Brian
Taylor and Ken Pinder came out on top with the lowest score in
the Ironwood Scramble tournament Saturday.

Moore Fuels win twice
EXETER - Dave Moore Fuels
PeeWee Girls' softball team took
two wins last week in regular sea-
son play. The girls narrowly de-
feated .Usborne Two 28-24 on
Tuesday and killed Hibbert 28-6 on
Thursday.
The girls win on Thursday ad-
vanced their record to 4-2. Chrissy
Parker led the team at the plate
against Hibbert with a triple and a
double while Andrea Urlin hit two
doubles. Another grand slam
homcrun by Jeri- Lynn Davis
brought in four runs for the locals.
Christine Morgan was on the
mound for the entire game.
Candice Miller and Jennifer
McNeilly also played well for
Moore Fuels.
On Tuesday, Davis was hot at
the plate once again for Moore
Fuels, hitting two homeruns, one
of which was a grand slam. Terri
Snell also hit well with a single, a
double and a triple.
Hitting well for Usborne Two
was Tina Glavin with two triples.
Starting pitcher for Moore Fuels
was Jodi Hamilton and relieving
her was Morgan and Christie
McInnes.
Pitching for Usborne Two was
Jenny Hardy.
Greys win twice more
EXETER- The Exeter Greys ad-
vanced their record in the South
Pcrth Ladies' Fastball League to 6-
2 last Wednesday as they defeated
Denfield 8-0.
Cindy Down led the team at the
plate with three hits for four at
bats including two doubles.
As well, a great double play was
made by pitcher Heidi Elliott, to
second baseman, Sandi Fremlin.
Elliott was also the Grey's win-
ning pitcher allowing five hits,
strucking out nine and walking
only two.
The Greys met Crediton Monday
night and doubled the home team
10-5 getting revenge from an earli-
er 8-4 loss.
Patti Down was the winning
pitcher for Exeter and had two
strike -outs along the way.
The long ball helped the Greys to
'their victory with Sandi Fremlin
knocking a pair home and one went
to Gail Bcuerman.
The Greys played at home
against St. Pauls Tuesday, yester-
day night and wrap up the regular
season with a game next Tuesday
night, July 18 against league -
leading St. Marys on the road at
8:30 p.m.
Atoms win B
EXETER- The Exeter One At-
oms took two wins in regular sea-
son play and took the "B" Trophy
last weekend in a Strathroy,tourna-
Ment.
In the Strathroy tournament,
the Atoms first opponent was Lu -
can. Although it was a well played
game for Exctcr, they took a dis-
appointing 3-2 defeat.
Geoffrey Mayer scored both
goals with the first being a beauti-
ful head ball. Scan Beattie also
played a strong defensive game.

cave them an easy 6-1 win over
Nairn to win the "B" champion-
G.B. Squirts
tie 3-3
GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend
Squirts soccer team played to a 3-3
tie against Nairn One on Thursday.
Shawn McGuire led the scoring
with two goals while Blake Smith
added one.
The Squirts meet Nairn Two at
home on Thursday.
The Grand Bend Mosquitos also
tied Nairn 4-4 and receive a bye
this week in regular season play.
The Grand Bend Pee Wee team -
took a 8-3 victory over Lucan with
four- goals by Mark Mollard and
two by Mark Fluter and Jeff Lin-
gani.
Last night (Tuesday), the Pee-
Wees travelled to Nairn.
Grand Bend's 17 and under team
defeated Ildcrton 3-1.
Goals were scored by Larry
Brooke, Matt Andcrson and Brad
Page.

scored two goals a piece while
Greg Geoffrey and Jeff MacLean
each had one. •
On June 26, the locals narrowly
defeated Lucan One 1-0. Exeter's
lone goal scorer was Farquhar.
June 29 brought a 3-2 victory
over Coldstream. Geoffrey put a
penalty shot by the Coldstream
goalie while Farquhar and Jeff
MacLean were other goal scorers.
Hole in one - Craig Webber re-
cently made a hole in one on Ir-
onwood Golf Course's fourth
hole. He is shown here hoping
for another.
