Pitching
key to
Royals
victory
EXETER - Backed by a solid
pitching performance by Greg
Wise, the Exeter Royals scratched
out a 2-0 victory against she Fullar-
ton B's Thursday night.
The Royals scored the only run
that they would eventually need in
the 4th inning as Greg Wise singled
and Jim Allison reached base on an
error. Wise scored on Dan Hey -
wood's triple while Allison was
thrown out at the plate.
The Royals added an insurance
run the next inning when Al Pym
reached first on a error and was driv-
en in on a Pete Tuckey ground out.
•Wise's pitching and the Royals
defence withstood bases-loaded/one
out situations in the fourth and
sixth innings. Wise scattered 3 hits
and struck out 15 over eight in-
nings while Derwyn Hodgins retimd
the only three batters in order he
faced in the 9th.
Exeter managed only 4 hits off of
Fullarton pitcher John Sykes. .
The Royals next take to the field
Wednesday night in Hensall vs. Ta-
vistock at 9 p.m., before heading to
Tara for a tournament on the week-
end.

action
GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend
PeeWee girls' softball team in-
creased their record to 3-3-0 last
Tuesday when they defeated Exeter
1 29-14.
All 16 girls played very well ac-
cording to coach Gerry VanBruane
commenting they all "played tight
and concentrated in the field plays."
' Batting well with triple base hits
were Danielle VanBruaene, Lisa
Turnball and Elizabeth Russel.
Second baseman, Jenny Reaburn,
also made some excellent catches to
aid, in the win.
The Grand Bend Atom Boys are
still the team to catch, although it
took them a couple of innings to
get it together the other day. Grand
Bend came out on top in the end,
more than doubling the Hibbert
team's score at 15-7.
It was the rookies on the team -
Jason Sheppard, Michael Reaburn
and Jason Brown - who proved
themselves hot on the bats on this
outing.
