The Co -Ops had little difficulty against St. Marys scoring once in the first and third innings, picking up two in the eighth and exploding for &seven run rally in the sixth. St. Marys brought in one run in the third, fourth and ninth innings and scored twice in the sixth. Homeruns were scored for the lo- cals by Jeff Butler, Fred Gregus and Scot Russell in the eighth, third and sixth innings respectively. Gregus hit well thoughout the game, with four hits and six at bats including a double, two singles and a homcrun. Butler also hit well going three hits for two at bats with a single, a double and a homerun. Multiple hits were also made by Russell who had three hits and six at bats including a single, a double and a homerun. Russell also. went for the full nine innings on the mound to take the win. He gave up 10 hits, five runs, four were earned, four were walked and he struck out 13. The 'Co -Ops stole a total of sev- en bases. The first place Co -Ops were real- ly too much for the last place Clin- ton team to handle. The Co -Ops scored at least one run in each in- ning. They picked- up two in the first, added five in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and a single run in the sixth. Clinton, meanwhile, picked up single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. • Starting pitcher, Dave Schwindt, helped his own cause at the plate. He had three hits and four at bats, including two doubles, scored twice and knocked in three runs. Also having multiple hit games were Mark Russell, Scot Russell and Jason Keller. Russell scored three times while Mardi Merner, Scot Russell, Brent O'Brien and Jcff Keller each scored twice in the Co -Ops offensive explosion. Exet- er also swiped 17 bases. Schwindt went the first six in- nings on the mound and picked up the win. He gave up six hits, three runs, two earned, walked a pair and struck out five. Genttner pitched the final inning and didn't allow a run while walking only one: ut.... Softball throw, ladies Ist: Shirley Tieman: Dashwoofl Please turn to page 14 Pitching key to Royals victory EXETER - Backed by a solid pitching performance by Greg Wise, the Exeter Royals scratched out a 2-0 victory against she Fullar- ton B's Thursday night. The Royals scored the only run that they would eventually need in the 4th inning as Greg Wise singled and Jim Allison reached base on an error. Wise scored on Dan Hey - wood's triple while Allison was thrown out at the plate. The Royals added an insurance run the next inning when Al Pym reached first on a error and was driv- en in on a Pete Tuckey ground out. •Wise's pitching and the Royals defence withstood bases-loaded/one out situations in the fourth and sixth innings. Wise scattered 3 hits and struck out 15 over eight in- nings while Derwyn Hodgins retimd the only three batters in order he faced in the 9th. Exeter managed only 4 hits off of Fullarton pitcher John Sykes. . The Royals next take to the field Wednesday night in Hensall vs. Ta- vistock at 9 p.m., before heading to Tara for a tournament on the week- end. Grand Bend minor ball action GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend PeeWee girls' softball team in- creased their record to 3-3-0 last Tuesday when they defeated Exeter 1 29-14. All 16 girls played very well ac- cording to coach Gerry VanBruane commenting they all "played tight and concentrated in the field plays." ' Batting well with triple base hits were Danielle VanBruaene, Lisa Turnball and Elizabeth Russel. Second baseman, Jenny Reaburn, also made some excellent catches to aid, in the win. The Grand Bend Atom Boys are still the team to catch, although it took them a couple of innings to get it together the other day. Grand Bend came out on top in the end, more than doubling the Hibbert team's score at 15-7. It was the rookies on the team - Jason Sheppard, Michael Reaburn and Jason Brown - who proved themselves hot on the bats on this outing.
