Times Advocate, 1989-06-14, Page 21Party for retiring Osborne teacher
By Rhoda Rohde
THAMES ROAD - On Saturday,
June 3 a retirement party was held
at The Little Inn, Bayfield, for retir-
ing Usbome Central Public School
teacher Jean Hodgert. Jean and Reg
were chauffeured in a '51 Chev,
driven by Larry Black, former vice-
principal of Usborne. Usbome staff
composed a song to Jean about her
•teaching career, sang to the tune of
"Lucille".
Jean was presented with a gor-
geous stained glass suncatcher, de-
picting a bus and a rural school,
handcrafted by a London artisan, and
given by staff and several other
teachers in the county.
On Monday, June 5, Huron
County Board of Education hon-
oured retired teachers at "White Car-
nation". Jean was given a certificate
in recognition of her years of ser-
vice, Reg accompanied her.
Jean's grade 2-3 class planned a
surprise party. She was presented
with a very appropriate "Precious
Moments" figurine, of a lady teach-
ing a young child to play the piano.
They also wrote a book of wishes
for happy years of retirement.
On Tuesday, June 6 a surprise as-
sembly was held; each class 'per-
formed a special tribute to Jean, a
rap, songs, poems, etc. with words
suited to the special occasion." The
student council gave her a Tammy •
Laye print. Jean was very moved by
the pupils' efforts.
Fellow teachers from various Hu-
ron schools dropped into Usborne
school to partake in a retirement
tea. The gym was magically
changed by decorations created by
the Usborne students. Happy Re-
tirement Jean.
