South Huron District High School.
Last .Wednesday, at SH's Athletic
Banquet, the athletes were honoured
for their hard work and dedication to
the Panther paw.

Following an -introduction of the
guest, speaker by Becci Farquhar
SH's female athlete attending Onta-
rio Secondary School leadership
camp, SH's principal, Bruce Shaw.
presented an encouraging speech to
the guests. He encouraged students
to use their potential to "Be all you
can be." Shaw made reference to his
teenage years as a young cadet as
well as to his sons Bruce and David
Shaw. He also gave the warning to
the students that they will experi-
ence hardships along the way be-
, cause, "Life isn't fair."
A thank you was given by Peter
McAllister, the male athlete attend-
ing Ontario Secondary School Lead-
ership Camp and -a plaque was pre-
sented to Shaw from the Athletic
Department as a farewell gift to the
principal who is leaving.
Individual awards were also pre-
sented to students"excelling in ath-
letics at SH. The Mike Prendergast
Memorial Award was presented to
Heather. Rideout and Brent O'Brien
for combined excellence in academ-
ics and basketball. The John Peters
Memorial Award was presented to
Scott Hern and Sonya Shantz for
their dedication and exemplary con-
tributions to the overall basketball
program at SH.
SH's Athletes of the Year are stu-
dents who have participated on two
ormore school teams and have
demonstrated above-average achieve-
ment in each. This year's junior
athletes -of -the -year were Julia
Merner and Ian Verbeek while the
Senior award went to Kim Craw-
ford, Larry Miller and Jon
O'Connor.
SH's prestigious Panther Award
was presented to graduating student.

Thus, another successful year of
athletics at SH comes to a close
with the feeling of pride and confi-
dence in being a Panthet.

Express blast Seaforth 16-4
EXETER - in their only start last
week, the Exeter Express 'Senior
•Baseball team blasted Seaforth 16-4
in a game played ' in Exeter Last
Tuesday.
The winners scored twice in the
third, five in the second and eight
in the seventh and cruised to an
easy victory, the third in a row.
Paul Gilmour belted his first
home run of the season and reached
base safely twice and scored both
times. Barry Baynham had a pair of
rbi doubles and scored twice. Pete
1-lenney and Walt Parkinson each
scored a pair of runs on a pair of
walks. Darcy Hayter had an rbi sin-
gle and a bases -loaded walk and
scored twice; while Brian Mercer
and Kevin Hern also scored single
runs for the winners. '
Exeter had a total of 16 hits in
the game, while Seaforth managed
four off winning Exeter pitcher Ke-
vin Drager.
Seaforth scored once in the sec-
ond and three times in the seventh.
The leadoff batter walked, the next
batter was safe on a fielder's choice
while the next batter walked to load
the bases. Three runs were then
knocked in a pair of singles.
The Express played in Seaforth
yesterday, Tuesday evening -and are
scheduled to play in Strathroy, to-
night.
