10 -year-old wins calf club competition
HENSALL - A heifer calf owned
by 10 year-old Richard Kinsman
was named grand champion m Sat-
urday's calf club competition at the
Hensall Spring Fair. -
The animal which weighed in at
1,055 pounds was purchase by
W.G. Thompson's and Son for
$1.90 a pound..
The reserve champion calf owned
by 11 year-old Valerie Ryan of RR
3, Ailsa Craig was bought by Hen-
sall Co -Op for $1.70 a pound.
Richard Kinsman is the son of
John and Karen Kinsman,' RR 3,
Kippen and Joe and Linda Ryan are
parents of Valerie Ryan.
Owners of the other calves fin-
ishing in the top 10 were Kevin
Jones, Rebecca Hartman, Jodi Har-
greaves, Charlene Ryan, Beth Hart-
man, Randy and Michael Jones,
Jackie McCaughey and Jeff Kins-
man.
In the showmanship class, Joan
Kerslake was the senior and overall
winner, Kris Gemmel was junior
champ and overall runnerup. Next

were Michael Hern and Gerald Ker-
slake.
Others placing high in the senior
section were Joe Gower, Jon Elier-
ington and Brad Hern while next in
the junior division were Jennifer
Hargreaves, Anne Kerslake, Jenny
McCaughey, Charlene Ryan, Den-
nis Gower and Rebecca Hartman.
Gerald Kerslake's calf gained the
most weight going from 474
pounds to the current 1,130
pounds.
Others gaining from 617 down to
528 pounds were calves owned by
Peter Ryan, Charlene
Ryan„Valerie Ryan, Andrew Kins-
man, Richard Kinsman, Jodi Har-
greaves, Blake Ryan, Kris Gemmel
and Rebecca Hartman.
The market class winners were
Joan Kerslake and Michael Hern.
Ip the Old -Timers class, Mike
Hartman was the big winner taking
the finish trophy and gaining the
most weight of 501 pounds. The
calf was shown by Hartman's
daughter Leah.
Dan Gower won the showman-
ship trophy in the Old Timers class
with fotmer grand champions being
eligible.
The youngest calf club competi-
tors were Jodi Hargreaves and An-
drew Kinsman.
Wheeling clowns - Joey and
Timmy Hay appeared as clowns
on their bikes in Saturday's
Hensall Fair parade.
