AILSA CRAIG - On May 10, the
Happy Gang Seniors met at the Le-
gion Hall at 1:30. President Levi
White presided for the meeting, as-
sisted by Secretary Shirley Wil-
liams and Harold Gilfoyle as Trcas-
urer.
Get Well cards were signed for
two of our members, Jessie Lewis
and Margaret Dores.
An invitation was received to join
with the Lucan Seniors on May 18
at 1:30 for a dessert euchre.
We are taking our bus trip to Nia-
gara Falls on -May 11, leaving the
apartments at the South lounge at
nine o'clock. Many thanks to Har-
old Gilfoyle for all his work.
The balance of the af-
ternoon' was spent. playing 10
games of euchre with seven tables
in play. Prizes went to the follow-
ing:High prizes.- Betty Lockhart;
Marjorie Steeper; Lone Hands -
Beckie Ross; Eunice Patterson;
Mens Low - Florence White; Belle
Stevenson.
Our next meeting will be on May
24 at 12 p.m., it being our monthly
pot luck dinner. Myrtle Dixon,
Marjorie Steeper and Betty Gilfoyle
will be the committee in charge.

Bridal shower held in Stanley Complex

VARNA - Syliva Wilson was the
recipient of many beautiful gifts at
the Varna and community bridal
shower held last Thursday May 11
in the Varna Complex.
Carol Simons welcomed everyone
and introduced honoured guests,
Sylvia, her mother Doris and moth-
er-in-law to be Mrs. Hill. Carol
then called on Karen Yeo, a child-
hood friend of Sylvia, to, perform
the Highland Ring. Julie Webster
also played a number on the piano.
Varna Players consisting of Pat
Norman, Deb Rathwell, Shirley
Hill, Janet Webster, Carol Simons,
Joyce Dowson, Phyllis Aldwinckle
and Vina Brodie, presented a hu-
mourous skit on Sylvia's different
jobs and her childhood years. Danny
and Darcy Rathwell were three -
wheel racers from the Hully Gully
where Sylvia worked for quite a few
years.
Barb Storey (nee Aldwinckle) read
the address to Sylvia before the
presentation of the beautiful gifts.
Sylvia thanked everone for their
gifts and thanked Carol Simons and
her committee for planning the
shower. She invited everyone to her
wedding reception.
Sylvia is marrying Vic Hill and
they are going to be living in Lond-
non: Syliva works in Victoria Hos-
pital London, in the Cancer Re -
..search Lab. Vic is a Certified
Petroleum Geologist working out
of Refftop Incorporated Oil Compa-
ny in London.
Baptism
Varna Church was filled to capac-
ity for the celebration of a baptism
and a dedication of two infant girls.
Rev. Sam Parker led with the call
to Worship and prayer.
The Varna Sunday School chil-
dren sang two songs, then presented
their mothers with silk roses.
Charles Reid, Clerk of the Ses-
sion then presented to Rev. Parker
and congregation, Lindsay Rae
Broadfoot, daughter of Charlie and
Laurie Broadfoot, for the sacrament
of Dedication and Stacey Lynn
Consitt, daughter of Scott and Bren-
da Consitt, for the sacrament of
Baptism.
Ivan McClynont and Deb Rath -
well then presented symbolic floral
gifts to the two sets of parents.
The commissioning and blessing
ended the service.
Conservation grants
Capital Conservation grants total-
ling $45,513 have been awarded to
various municipalities in the
County, Jack Riddell, MPP for Hu-
ron announced recently on behalf of
Ontario Minister of Tourism and
Recreation Hugh O'Neil. The fol-
lowing amounts will be utilized by
these communities: Township of
Goderich, $3,309 for picnic shelter
at Lakeside Ball Park; Town of Ex-
eter, $3,653 for sound system at
South Huron Recreation Centre;
Goderich Kinsmen Club $7,789 for
new playground equipment at Kins-
men Park; Blyth, $12,106 to refur-
bish Radford Ball Diamond and in-
stall lights and fencing; Brussels,
$6,257 to install lights and stan-
dards at Brussels Ball Park; Stephen
Township, $2,166 for new roof and
insulation at Township arena; Zu-
rich $3,486 to install rubberized
floor tiles in the Community Cen-
tre; Tuckersmith Township, $6,747
to install acoustical panels in the
indoor pool.
"In keeping with the long-term
health care directions this govern-
ment articulated in the recent
Throne Speech, I wish to note that
these projects will greatly enhance
the health and lifestyle choices of
all Ontarians," said Mr. Riddell.
"Recreation is a key to wellness
and an essential part of a healthy,
fulfilling lifestyle" he said.

The Varna Orange Lodge's last
card party for this year was held
'Friday May 12 at 8 p.m. with 14
tables in play.
Ladies high prize was won by

Plumstccl won the high prize for
the men. Ladies low went to Krigta
McAsh and men's low went to Er-
nie Brown. Lucky door prize win-
ners were Ester Moffat, Mervin
Hayter, Ruth Johnson and Roberta
Plumstccl.
The Varna Orange Lodge mem-
bers would like to thank everyone
