The Express got one back in the
top of the eighth when Heeney belt-
ed his second home run of the game
and got back on even terms with a
pair of runs in the ninth.
With one gone in the ninth, Par-
kinson, reached on an error by the
left fielder, Hayter singled, Atthill
singled scoring Parkinson and
Hayter scored when the first base-
man bobbled Martin's ground ball.
But Atthill couldn't hold Strath-
roy off in the bottom of the ninth.
With one out, Dennis Plainey dou-
bled and scored the winning run
when Robson singled.
On Sunday, the Express scored
four times in the first inning and
twice in the fifth and held on for the
6-5 exhibition win over Wyoming.
Paul Elston was on the mound
for the Express in that game.
Baynham had two hits in Sun-
day's game for the Express.
The Express played Strathroy in
Exeter yesterday, Tuesday and don't
play again until next Tuesday, May
23, at 6:30 p.m. when Strathroy
makes a return visit to Exeter.
Another Fitness challenge planned
base EXETER - Anyone who thinks

Power Plant Fitness Challenge will
take place Sunday July 23 at a yet -
to -be -determined site.
The purpose of the challenge is to
run a number of -events and see who
is fittest determined on a point sys-
tem.

Co-ops beat Lucan in first game
EXETER - The Exeter Junior Co-
ops got their 1989 baseball season
off to a good start last Wednesday
when they edged the Lucan Juniors
7-6 in Exeter, a game that was
called after five innings.
Lucan opened the scoring in the
top of the first inning when, with
two out, Steve Nixon scored an un-
earned run.
Exeter got that back in their half
of the first. Lead-off batter Brent
O'Brien walked, stole second went
to third on an error by the catcher
and scored on a single by Dave
Schwindt.
Lucan scored three timcs in the
top of the second, with Brown, He-
witt, and Carmichael all scoring,
runs for Lucan.
Exeter answered that with four
runs of their own in their half of
the second.
Shortstop Marty Merncr led off
with a single, stole second and
scored on a double by Scott Rus-
sell. Scott Hern followed with a
single scoring Russell. Hern went
to second on an error by the pitcher
and scored when O'Brien reached
safely on an error by the Lucan sec-
ond baseman. O'Brien later scored
after he stole second went to third
on a wild pitch and scored on anoth-
er error
The Co-ops went up 7-4 with
two more runs in the bottom of the
fourth. Scott Davidson, Scott Hern,
and O'Brien all walked and with the
bases loaded scored on a two base
error by the Lucan centre fielder
with Jeff Butlkrr batting.
. Lucan was able to get a pair of
runs in the top of the fifth to get
within a run but couldn't get any
closer. Lee Mathieson and Nixon
scored runs' for Lucan in the top of
the fifth.
Russell picked up the win for Ex-
eter, pitching three innings, giving
up four runs, all earned, only one
hit, walked one and struck out
three. Genttncr pitched two innings
allowing two runs to pick up the
save.
Sunday's game in Scaforth was
postponed due to rain.
The next game for the Co-ops
will be tonight, Wednesday, when
Clinton is in Exctcr for a 6:30 p.m.
game, and Sunday Exeter travels to
Lucan for a 1:30 p.m. contest.

Clam derby? - Danny Talbot, of Brucefield, was able to latch this
clam on his line during the Etter Lions Club Fish Derby at Morri-
son Dam Saturday. He tried to convince the judges into making it
a clam derby but with no luck. It will make a good chowder how-
ever.
Centennials drop second game
STRATHROY -,The Exctcr Cen-
tennials lost their second game of
the young London and District Soc-
cer League season on Sunday when
they were blanked 5-0 in Strathroy.
The Centennials found it hard to
mount any offensive pressure on
Strathroy because they were only
able to get nine players to make the
trip for the game, while playing
against 11 Strathroy players.
Despite the score, Exeter got
strong games from Sean O'Rourke,
Joe Laurie and goaltender Craig
Winbow and they didn't allow
Strathroy to get on thc board until
the 35 -minute mark of the first
half.
Next game for the Centennials
will be Sunday, May 28 when Wal-
laceburg will be here for a 2 p.m.

EXETER - Troy Cooper, 12, was
the big winner in the annual Exeter
Lions Club Fishing Derby at Mor-
rison Dam on Saturday. Cooper, of
Hensall, was the grand champion
and thc junior champion with his
16" trout.
Randy Van Dorssclaer won the
Senior Championship with a 15 3/
4" trout, Ron MacEachern was next
with a 14 3/4" prize followed by
Frank Van Dorsselaer with a 14"
trout.

Panthers play
in final game

CLINTON - On Friday, South
Huron District High School's Jun-
ior and Senior Boys' soccer teams
travelled to Clinton for their _final
game in regular -season play.
The Junior Boys took an easy 5-0
victory but the Senior Panthers fell
to the Redmen 1-0.
The Junior Panthers had little dif-
ficulty defeating the Rcdmen. Dar-
ryl Beaver led the scoring with three
goals while Dave Maguire and
Ryan Hern each added singles.
Frank Inrig recorded the shutout for
the Panthers.
SH's Senior Boys controlled play
in their game against the Rcdmen
but theyy couldn't seem to put one
behind Clinton's goal keeper. The
Panthers lost a disappointing game
1-0.
Both the Junior and Senior Pan-
thers began playoffs on Monday in
quarterfinal action in Clinton.
The Junior Boys also played a
tough game against F.E. Madill on
Wednesday. The Mustangs took a
1-0 lead over the Panthers but
South Huron couldn't catch their
opponents.
Bill Jennison continues to have
an outstanding season on defense
for the Junior Panthers.
