Larry Miller became the overilt
Huron -Perth Champion to lead
SH's Senior Boys' to a second -place
team finish.
As well, 14 athletes will now ad-
vance to the Western Ontario,
(WOSSA) meet today (Wednesday)
and tomorrow at Little Stadium at
the University of Western Ontario.
Miller claimed three gold medals
for the Panthers. He completed the
800 metre race with a time of 2:06,
1500 metre ,race in 4:24 and the
3000 metre race in 9:32.2. Team-
mate, Scott Wellington placed sec-
ond behind Miller in both the 1500
metre and 3000 metre races with
times of 4:35 and 9:48 respective-
ly.
Wellington also set a new school
record for the Panthers in the 2000
metre Steeplechase, when he
claimed the gold medal in a time of
6:56. Scott Regier placed second in
the 400 metre sprint and third in the
800 metre race with times of _ 54.8
seconds and 2:09 respectively.
The Senior Panthers boys' 4x100
metre relay team • of Rob Pearen,
Scott Russell, Regier and " Jake
Morrice placed third with a time of
48 seconds to advance to WOSSA.
Morrice also placed third in Sen-
ior Boys' triple jump with a jump
of 11.45 metres.
Rob Wonnacott will also advance
in Senior Boys' High Jump. Won-
nacott placed second with a jump of
1.80 metres. _
For the Senior Girls, Laurie For-
rester claimed the high jump title
with a jump of 1.54 metres. Fo6
rester also placed second in long
jump with a jump 6f 4.44 metres
and third in shot put with a throw
of 9.03 metres. Rosemary Regier
will also advance to W.O.S.S.A. as
she placed second in the 800 metre
and 1500 metre races with times of
2:42 and 5:40. Brenda Vanderlaan
placed third behind Regier in the
1500 Metre racc with a time of
6:08.
David Schwindt claimed the gold
medal for SH's Junior Boys in jave-
lin with a throw of 41:28. Paul
Dickert took second place in the
long jump with a jump of 5.50 me-
tres. Scott Russell placed third in
both the 100 metre and. 200 metre
sprint with times of :11.6 and
23.2.
Michelle Chalmers led SH's-Jun-
ior girls with two second -place fin-
ishes in the 800 metre and 1500
metre races.
Randy Johnson of SH's Midget
boys will attend W.O.S.S.A. for
javelin after claiming .the HP title
with a throw of 43.94 metres.
Angela Gould also placedthird in
the midget girls' 800 metre race to
advance to W.O.S.S.A.

Grand Bend Salmon Derby is a success
GRAND BEND - Despite two
days of bad weather, organizers arc
calling the first -annual Grand Bend
Salmon Derby a huge success.
High winds prevented boats from
getting out on the lake at all on
Thursday and very few boats were
able to get out do Friday.
A total of 38 salmon and one
trout were caught over the five-day
period. The average weight of the
fish caught was 8.274 lbs.
Norman Aitken, of t_onuon was
the big winner, taking home the
first -place prize package of $1,000
and a rod and reel. Aitken's first -
place salmon tipped,the scales at
15.708 lbs.
Randy Keene, of London, was
second with a salmon that weighed •
in at 14.35 lbs. and he won $600,
followed by Ron Ruppert from
Grand Bend who captured third over-
all winning $300 with a 14.19
pound salmon.
Jane Hobbs, of Sarnia, caught a
salmon that weighed in at 13.94 lbs
and was good for fourth place and a
fishing graph from Four Seasons.
Cullen Kobe, of Grand Bend, won
fifth place and a depth finder from
Warner Marine. Louie DeBrum, of
Grand Bcnd, was in sixth place and
won a spot light from Grand Bend
Marine.
Allan Jennings, of Forest, was in
seventh with a fish that weighed in
at 13.18 lbs and he won a Fenwick
Fish Box and lures. Dan Orban, of
Grand Bcnd was mkt and also won
a Fenwick Fish Box and lures, as
did Gordon Baku r of London, who
was able to finish in ninth spot.
John Billings and Robert Vowel,
both of Grand Bend were next and
both won a vinyl lure case and
lures. Their fish weighed in at
11,80 and 11.57 lbs. respectively.
Gordon Baker, of London, was
next and won a life jacket, for his
fish that weighed in at 11.04 lbs.,
followed by Mark Miniclly, of Pc-
trolia and Paul Kacmpf, of Grand
Bcnd, who were the final two to
finish in the prize list. Minielly's
fish tipped the scales at 10.19 lbs
and Kacmpfs weighed in at 9.58
lbs. Miniclly picked up a life jacket
and lures and Kacmpf won a vinyl
case and lures.
Entrants came from as far away as
Sault. Ste. Marie, Windsor and
Wingham tb take part in thc derby,
but most came from within five
miles of the lake shore. •
Organizers said things wcnt well
this year and arc hopeful better
weather next year can attract even
more out fishermen.
The winners can pick up their
prizes at an awards ceremony June
3, at the Pinedale Motel in Grand
Bcnd.
Express open season with 11-10 loss
Lead off batter Peter Hccncy then
belted his first home run of the sea-
son knocking in himself and Martin
and staking the Express to a 7-3
lead.
• Strathroy picked up three runs in
the bottom of the sixth to creep
back to within a single run. They
scored the three times on four hits
off Hunt, who worked the middle
three innings and struck out five.
Strathroy then scored four more
times in the bottom of the seventh
off Atthill, most of the runs com-
ing when Strathroy's designated hit-

press began defence of their provin-
cial Senior D baseball title with an
11-10 loss in Strathroy last
Wednesday.
They also played a scvcn-inning
exhibition game against Wyoming
in Exeter Sunday and won 6-5.
Against Strathroy, the Express
used three pitchers, Kevin Drager,
Dave Hunt and Dave Atthill, each
going three innings.
The game was scoreless until the
home team picked up three runs- in
the bottom of thc third on just two
hits. All three runs came off of
Dragcr in his .last inning of work
on the mound.
The Express came hack and scored
seven times in their half of the
fourth. Drager lead off with a sin-
gle, advanced to third on a pair of
passed balls and scored on a single
by Dave Parkinson.
Parkinson went to second on a
passed ball, Davc Hayter followed
with a walk and Barry Baynham
then singled scoring Parkinson
