Irish drop first three games in J
LUCAN - If the Lucan Irish are
going to win the provincial Junior
D title they are going to have to do
it the hard way, by taking the series
to the limit.
The Irish beat the Exeter Hawks
and Tavistock Braves in seven
games in their previous two series,
but dropped the first three games of
the best -of -seven finals to the
Lambeth Lancers and if the Irish
want to win they will have to take
the series to seven games again.
Lambeth won game one Thurs-
day night 4-1 and game two Satur-
day night 5-4. The first two games
were played at Nichols Arena in
London.
Sunday night in game three at the
Lucan Arena, the Irish held a 6-3
lead with less than 10 minutes to
play in the game, the Lancers
scored four times in the last 10
minutes to take a 7-6 lead.
"We played well enough to beat
them in the second and third games,
but for us to be successful against
them, (Lambeth), we have to be
physical, and we weren't consistent-
ly physical," said Irish cbach Dave
Revington after Sunday's contest.
"I think I will just let the players
motivate themselves for now on
and see where it takes us. We have
been in must -win games before and
come through but I thought Sun-
day's game was a must -win game
also. We seem to play better when
our backs are to the wall," said
Revington.
Lambeth 7 Lucan 6 -
Referee Kevin McAlpine called
Lucan for three minor penalties in a
row starting at the 9:24 mark of the
third period and Lambeth took ad-
vantage and scored a pair of power-
play goals to get within a goal at 6-
5, scored a short-handed goal to tie
it and a regular -strength goal with
just under three minutes to play to
take the win. All four goals came
within a seven -Minute span.
Mickey Dupuis' goal at 52 sec-
onds gave Lambeth a quick 1-0 lead
and it stayed that way until the sec-
ond period.
Graham Hutton picked up a short-
handed, unassisted goal at 1:36 of
the second period to get Lucan on
the board.
Paul Barnes scored his first of
two in the period, from Glen Mar-
shall and Dean Schram, nearly three
minutes later to give the Irish a 2-1
lead.
Brad Muir scored from Colin Tel-
ford at 8:52 of the second to give
Lucan at 3-1 lead and they went up
4-1 when Barnes got his second
from Telford and Joe Febrey at
11:45.
At that point Lambeth'coach Brad
• Wills replaced starting goalie Brad
Gard with Mario Schembri but the
Irish couldn't test Schembri with
many shots the rest of the period.
Lambeth's Jack Dundas cut the
lead in half when he scored just
over a minute after Barnes had giv-
en the Irish a 4-1 lead and the Lanc-
ers crept to within a goal when
John Grasso scored an unassisted
goal before the second period was
over.
Two quick goals less than 1:30
part in the third gave Lucan their
three -goal lead back. Hutton's sec-
ond goal of the game from Dean
Doerr and Marshall made it 5-3 and
Darren Neil's goal from Tim Hayter.
and Muir made it 6-3.
Scoring for Lambeth in, the last
10 minutes were; Gord Ross on the
power -play from Scott Pepin and
Dupuis, Scou MacDonald from Du-
puis and Dundas, Pepin while
Karate Club does well
LONDON - Several members of

biggest and most important in
southern Ontario this year by Brian
Decker of the Tyndall Club.

the 35 -and -over all belt fighting di-

To get ready for the Internationals
in London, the Tyndall Club attend-

well there also. Only Goderich, Ex-

Ian Becker and Darryl Romphl
took second and third respectively
in katas in their own respective di-

Lambeth 5 Lucan 4
Saturday night's game found
Lambeth leading 1-0 at the end of
one period, but each team scored
three times in the middle session so
Lambeth retained their one -goal lead
heading into the third.
The Irish outshot Lambeth 13-8
in the third period and 36-31 in the
game but couldn't get the equalizer
past Gard when they needed to.
Saturday's game was also penalty
fdled. Lucan was assessed 20 minor
penalties by referee Mark Clark, 16
more minutes than Lambeth, for
which Lambeth took advantage
scoring three times on the power
play in a 6:14 span of the second
period. This made the difference in
the game. Lucan also picked up
three 10 -minute misconduct penal-
ties, to Todd Hayter, Rick Weisar,
and Barnes.
Scoring for the winners were; Du-
puis from Paul Zadorsky, Pepin
from Ross, Steve Plaskett from
Dupuis and Brian Minhinnick,
