ri
EXETER - The Exeter Mohawks opened the Cen-
tral Senior B semi-final playoffs series Sunday
night and played one of their best games defensively
all year, defeating the Elora Rocks 2-1 in overtime.
The Mohawks had eliminated the Harriston Blues
one week earlier and had wanted some time off to
help heal some injured players and were able to get
a week off when the Rocks eliminated the Tavistock
Royals in four games last Monday night.
"It was not a'.great game by either. team," said
Mohawk coach and general manager Bob Rowe. "It
seemed like both teams were just trying to feel each
other out which happens sometimes in the first
game of a long series.'
"Rick Pikul played another great game for us, but
either.one of us could have won the game but.I
thought that it might even end up going into double
overtime," said Rowe.
Rowe added he was happy to win the game be-
cause it keeps his team on a roll
"It was a good win for us because it was our fifth
in a row in the playoffs and anytime you win five
in a row it really builds your confidence, but they
(Elora) will be a different hockey club when we get
up to their barn Wednesday night," said Rowe in an
interview on. Monday.
Elora's Rod Martin opened the scoring when his shot
got past Pikul at 5:08 of the first period. Rock captain
Greg Broughton and Chet Couture drew the only as-
sists on the play: .
The Mohawks got that back nearly eight minutes lat-
er with Ron Goodhand doing the damage with help
from linemates John Kernick and Jeff Shipley.

was set for Quincy. Wilker's heroics, who scored the
game -winning goal at 8:40 of the first overtime period,
after being set up by.A1 Gates.
