Salon club leads in rec league
By PAUL WRAITH
Salon 174, who in past
weeks have quietly gained
points on the leaders, Greens
and Hagen's Hackers, took
sole possession of top spot
this week as the two former
leading teams lost. This
weeks play left Salon 174 a
point ahead of the Greens
and Hackers and only two
ahead of the last place Blues.
Before this week's play
started, the Greens and
Hackers were tied for first
and Salon 174 was only one
point behind. If both the
Greens and Hackers were to
lase and Salon 174 won, they
would be in first. In the first
game the Blues did their part
in Salon 174's takeover by
defeating the Greens 4-1.
Salon 174 then blasted the
Hackers 9-1.
Excellent goaltending
from Keith Ewer and six
points from Don Murray
powered Salon 174 to victory.
They built a 3-0 first period
lead on two Chris Mouritzen
goals and a tenacious shot by
Bruce Cornish that left
Hacker goalie, Chuck
Fredin, motionless. Andy
Hardy was the only Hacker
player Ewer to the short
side.
Murray then scored two
shorthanded goals, one of
them when they were two
men short. On the first goal
he stole the puck at his own
blue line and shot it ahead of
him. Fredin then began to
rush out but realized he
wasn't going to beat Murray
to the puck.
Fredin tried to return to
the net but Murray scored
while Fredin was still
skating back. Scott Anderson
increased the lead to 6-1 and
Jack Conlin connected with
Ron Keys to light the lamp.
Brian Dick then deflected a
Murray shot bnetween
Fredin's legs before Murray

The Lucan Women's
Institute December meeting
was held Wednesday af-
ternoon, commencing with a
"pot luck" luncheon,
following which Santa Claus
arriving midst ringing sleigh
bells, to distribute gifts to all
members.
A reading "What is
Christmas" was given by
Lillian Radcliffe, a carol
sing was enjoyed with Muriel
Cobleigh at the piano, a
"parcel passing game was
won by Lillian Radcliffe and
a humorous poem "Keeping
Your Cool" was read by
Violet Hardy.
Alice Hodgson suggested
that each member give a
"childhood memory of
Christmas" which proved to
be mostly quite humorous.
Iva Hodgins led in a
Christmas quiz won by
Mabel Froats, and Mrs.
Froats read the stories of
several carols asking the
members to watch for some
specific phrase in each carol.
The roll call was answered
by giving "What I want for
Christmas" and included
everything from good health,
family around me etc. to "a
gold chain, diamond ring and
a little hack mustache"!
The 'White Gift"
collection will be used by
Margaret Hodgins and Iola
Goring to buy gifts for
Meadowcrest family
members who have no close
relatives.

He brings us toys when we

His name is St. Nicholas and
he comes in a sleigh
Which is pulled by 8 riendeer
to this very day
He'll come to your house if
your near or far
To bring you the nice toys

Santa is pretty nice even
though he could be Rob,
Bob or Smith
The only reason that is cause

UC concert
The Lucan United Church
was filled to capacity, with
children even sitting on the
floor in front of the platform,
for the annual Sunday School
Concert and party, Sunday
evening. Rev. Keith Brown
welcomed parents and
friends following a lovely
post of carols played by
Helen Brown on the piano.
Various groups and in-
dividuals of Betty Hall's 7
year old class gave short
recitations during the
program, which was
followed by a "puppet show
by Dorothy Dedels and her 5
and 6 year olds, entitled
"Christmas Eve in Happy
Valley".
Linda Froats read the
required script and Mrs.
Dedels must be commended
for the hours of work put into
making, not only her own
larger puppets, but hand
puppets for each member of
her class, as well as
designing the scene behind
which the class worked.
Anne Holden's class of 3 and
4 year olds sang Jesus Loves
Me", "May God Bless You"
and "Jingle Bells".
