A sweet impression
An area harness racing horse made a sweet im-
pression on the Canadian racing world in 1979 and was
honoured for all of her accomplishments.
We are talking about Sweet Impression a three
year-old trotting filly owned by Doug Courtney and his
Wheeling By Stables of Grand Bend.
Sweet Impression was named three year-old trot-
ting filly of the year by the Canadian Trotting Associa-
tion.
The Grand Bend based filly earned more than
$100.000 during 1979 with nine victories and seven
seconds in 18 starts. Included was a new i:fetime
record of 2 03
Doug Courtney tells us Sweet Impression will
probably be making one more racing start this year
before being bred to the trotting sire Soncan at Pine
Hollow Stud Farms in Pine Bush. New York.

Montreal Expos Carter missed the last few weeks of
the 1979 schedule and his presence in the lineup could
have made a difference in the Expos stretch drive
which just fell short.

a representative of the Detroit Tigers to also appear.
Professional football will be well represented by
Terry Metcalf. a running back from the Toronto
Argonauts and Cleveland Browns wide reciever

represented by two world class track and fielders.
They are World Cup high jump champion Debbie Brill

years $25 for adults and $15 for students They may be

Where is the liniment?
After donning the blades as one of the officials in
the oldtimers game at the Stephen township arena Sun-
day night we could use a bottle or two of liniment.
Seriously. it was a real fun time for everyone who
attended the official transfer of the arena from the On-
tario Development Corporation to the township.
ODC manager Jack Malone summed the situation
up well when he said, "The arena is back where it
should be in the hands of the public."
The arena originally called the Randall arena was
built in 1963 by funds contributed by the officers and
men of the then RCAF Centralia base. When the air
force base closed it was taken over by ODC.
The highlight of Sunday's program was the old-
timers hockey game in which the best of the west prov-
ed to be just that as they defeated a team from the east
by a score of 8-1
A few extra penalties administered against the
west by the two very just officials failed to help much
on the scoreboard.
All in all it was a very fun night and we believe
there were quite a few spectators making their first
visit to the arena. Now we hope all of Stephen township
will make use of the fine facility both as a participant
and a spectator
