Discuss township fire protection WEST McGILLIVRAY - Repre- sentatives from the Lucan, Ailsa Craig and Parkhill fire depart- ments, together with affected own- ers, met with McGillivray town- ship council to discuss fire protection for properties in and near the North Boundary Conces- sion. By agreement, each department has primary responsibility for a designated arca of McGillivray. A phone call to Central Dispatch at 1-433-0111 will bring the appro- priate department to the scene of the fire or emergency. Under the Middlesex Mutual Aid agrccmcnt, equipment as required can be sum- moned from other departments. Under a supplementary agreement with Stephen township, their de- partment has been compensated after responding to a call in or near the North Boundary in the section be- tween Mount Carmel and Ilighway No. 4. Stephen advised McGillivray that the agreement would be terminated at midnight on June 30 and asked McGillivray to notify the affected owners. Following a lengthy and thorough discussion, it was decided that the fire departments would conduct trial .runs into the affected arca to demon- strate response times; that notices of the termination of service would be published in the local papers; and that negotiations with Stephen would be continued. Representatives attending thc meeting were Chief Wes Nickson and Deputy John Riddell for Lucan F.D.; Chief Carm Pickering and Jack Whitmore for Ailsa Craig F.D.; Chief Jim Scott for Parkhill F.D.; Pat and Ray Glavin for the 65 property owners who had received notice of thc meeting.
