Grand Bend soccer gets boost GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend and District Socccr Association re- ceived a $500.00 donation last week. Nabisco, on behalf of IGA in Grand Bend, donated the money for a winning display at the local store. Owner Peter Haist presented the cheque to soccer president Tony Mennen. The league has five teams supporting about 75 players this year. In squirt action, the team lost their first game to St. Columbian, then steadily improved to tie Exet- er, 1-1. Bryce Kadlecik scored Grand Bend's goal. Against Lucan III, Grand Bend came up big with an 8-2 sin. Brian Tuddrick scored four goals, Kadlecik three, and Sean Maguire addcd a sin- gle. In a 10-3 win over Arva, the Grand Bend goal -getters were Kadle- cik with four, Tuddrick, three, Ma- guiffs one, and Jonathon DeJong scc twice. "I t►. Squirts play Thursday, June 23 in Lucan. Practise is every Tues- day in Grand Bend at 7:00 p.m. The Atoms lost their first game to St. Columban. In the 8-4 score, Simon Desjardine scored all four in a come -back situation. The Atoms defcatedxeter II with a 3-1 mark. Desjardine notched all three, with .setups from Troy Stellingserff, Matthew DeJong, and Chris Dumas. Lucan I beat Grand Bend with a 5- 3 score in a very close match. Mat- thew DeJong and Allan Bysma 4 scored first with an off -side goal by Desjardine, from a corner kick. All Atom games arc played on Monday nights with a Wednesday practise. Coach for the team is Henri Bysma, Ravenswood. The Mosquito's have had a poor start with a rained out game, and a cancellation. In their only match, the Grand Bend team defeated Naim with an 8-2 win. Josh Vermeulen scored four, Trevor Struth notched two and Drew Anderson addcd a sin- gle. Coach Rob Mennen assured us that the team is a good one. In Peewee action, veteran coach Martin' Vandenbcrk, coached his team to another win in their first i game. They defeated Exeter II by a 3-1 margin. Jeff Lingard score& twice and Mark Mollard added the third mark. They play tonight (Wednesday) against St. Columban. Bob Vandenbygaart is the new coach for the Grand Bend Bantam team. Steven Hopkins opened the scor- ing for Lucan, with his first goal of the season. Exeter tied the score late in the first half, on a penalty shot.
